All I ever hear about anymore is MySpace, but what is it?
MySpace is a one of the social networks that you can be a part of that is available via the Internet today. It is one of the more recent networks that has just taken off in popularity. I don’t even think the creator of MySpace thought it would be such a craze. There are over 70 million members on MySpace with more and more adding every day.
With MySpace, you can create your own profile, meet new people, talk with your friends, share photos, write in a public or private journal and just basically build up your own network. You can also use MySpace for business networking. After you sign up and make your free profile, you can put information in there about yourself, your personal and business interests and it also has various networking opportunities to choose from.
Once you’re set up, you can then go looking for friends or you can invite other friends to join in the MySpace mania. They can create a profile for themselves and then you all can be “friends” through the site by adding each other to your friend list. MySpace can be used for various reasons. You can use it to just meet new people and chat with them, meet singles, create a type of family tree by getting everyone in the family to sign up, stay in touch with old friends, connect with your co-workers and you can use it as a resource for business reasons. A lot of independent bands and groups use MySpace to get their name out and as a way to keep fans informed about upcoming shows and song releases. MySpace really can be used for anything.
There have been some issues lately in the news and pretty much everywhere about MySpace safety. Along with it becoming so popular, it has slowly become a harbor for safety and privacy issues. This is especially true for younger children. It is important for parents to keep an eye on what their kids are doing while they are online. Make sure they are not putting too much personal information onto sites like MySpace.
All in all, MySpace is just a fun site to use to network and meet new people or stay in touch with old friends. There’s no harm behind it, but be smart and stay safe when using the site. You can start creating your own profile at http://www.myspace.com/. There are also several other things you can do within MySpace, so stay tuned to the newsletter for some of those in the upcoming issues!
