Thanks to nanny cams, you no longer need to have eyes in the back of your head. These indoor security cameras were made popular by parents who wanted to keep watch over their nannies, but they are not limited to this use. Nanny cams can help monitor your home while you’re on vacation, keep an eye on Fido when you’re at work, and—of course—keep track of caregivers for children and older parents.
Pros of Nanny Cams
The biggest benefit of using a nanny cam is the peace of mind you get knowing that your home and loved ones are safe even when you can’t be there. There are several other benefits to consider as well.
- Nanny cams are affordable, compact, and discreet. They can be hidden in common household items like stuffed animals and picture frames, and many of the best cameras are available for less than $200.
- You can record or view footage live. Many nanny cams now come with apps that allow you remotely control and access the camera with your computer or smartphone.
- These cameras let you observe a caregiver firsthand to see how well they get along with your children, pets, or older parents. This can help build trust and confidence after you’ve hired someone new.
- Observing what goes on when you’re away can help you offer appropriate feedback to improve caregiver performance. It can also assist with determining the truth if you receive conflicting accounts from your caregiver and child.
But there are some concerns about using these types of devices. Tomorrow in part 2 of this series we check out the cons and potential legal and cyber security risks of nanny cams.
