I’ve been in Wisconsin for almost a year now and decided that it’s probably time I look into getting a local bank account.  That means I’m doing all kinds of research about the banks here in order to find one that is the right fit for me.  In that search, I ran across this site. I thought it was really good at comparing financial products, so I wanted to share it with all of you.

If you scroll down the main page you can learn more about what the site offers. You’ll find navigation to the different sections along the top of the screen: Credit Cards, Banking, Investing, Mortgages, Loans, and Insurance.

My favorite part of this site is their comparison tool. I used it specifically for banks, but they have it for each section with options relevant to the content you’re looking at.

For banks you start with three options: Compare Your Options (Checking Accounts), Search for Savings (Savings Accounts), and Find CD Rates (Certificates of Deposits). I’m looking for a checking account so I selected that option. I’m interested in both online banking and national banks, so I left it with those filters on at first. I’m trying to find something that will be a good fit for my life, and with the possibility of moving again in a year, online banking might be easier to transition with from place to place.

The results of the search display: what the ATM fees are, if there are branches near your zip code, and if you have to carry a balance to avoid a fee. There isn’t any information for credit unions, and while that would be nice to have, I don’t think it takes away from the value of the service the comparison tool does. Credits would be hard to track for every locality. Instead, this lets me see what is out there and I can make my own comparison of the different accounts vs. the credit unions in my area.

This is a great site to compare financial products and get tips! Go check it out today!
