Samsung has developed a new app to help out patients with Alzheimer’s. It’s called Backup Memory. The app was developed with the help of the Tunisian Alzheimer’s Associations and functions as a memory stimulator for folks with the early signs of Alzheimer’s.
Friends and relatives of the person with Alzheimer’s would download the app to their phones. The app then uses the Bluetooth connection on the phone to alert the Alzheimer’s patient when someone they know is nearby and it will also display pertinent information such as a photo and a description of how the patients knows that person. Photos and videos related to the person can be added to serve a further reminders of the relationship. The screenshot below is in French, but the app is available in both French and English versions.
In the screenshot below, a man receives an alert that his daughter is there along with a photo identifying her.
There is also additional information to help identify the daughter, such as photos of her when she was a small child.
Families can customize the information to fit the patient. The developers are working to add additional features to the app. They want to add a feature that would allow family members to use the phone’s GPS to track the real-time location of loved ones.
Backup Memory is available in the Google Play Store. in both French and English.
