Lost
Icons
How much do
you depend on certain icons on your desktop? I'm talking about the
icons from the likes of My Computer, My Documents, Network
and so on. Those are a few of the icons that you probably
used on a regular basis in Windows XP, so if they're not there, or you're using Windows Vista, what are
you supposed to do? Well, the best answer is, "Get them
back!"
Now, there
are a few different ways you may have lost the icons. They could
have disappeared when you installed a certain program or even when
you upgraded to a new operating system. If you're using Vista, they probably weren't there in the first place! In any case, you might need them,
so let's find them again!
To enable those icons in Windows XP, right
click on your desktop and choose "Properties". Click
on the Desktop tab and hit the Customize
Desktop button. Next, under the General tab, check any of the icons you want to appear on your
desktop. Click OK and you're all set!

To enable your icons in Windows Vista, right click the desktop and choose "Personalize", then choose "Change Desktop Icons". From here you'll be able to restore your old favorites from XP to your Vista desktop! Click OK and you're good to go!
Once you do
that, they will all be returned to your desktop in full view. You
can choose from the icons of My Documents, My Computer, My Network
Places and more. Now, on the other hand, you may want
to take some of these icons off your desktop. If that's the case,
just uncheck them and they will then be out of your way. It's a pretty simple procedure in either case!

Special Promotion For Windows XP Users!
It Happened To Me - Windows XP Died...
So Why Don't I Care?
The Surprising Answer...
You know how I'm always saying you need to backup your stuff? How I'm always trying to sell stuff to help protect you from disaster? Well, my Windows XP kicked the digital bucket. It became so severely crippled (even after multiple reboots), I could no longer use it. It was (sniff) gone.
My data was all backed up (and on a separate drive), so that wasn't a problem.
However, I did need to restore my system. You know how that can go. You grab the restore disk from your computer manufacturer, but it only puts you back to the way the computer was when it was new- all your software is history. It can take hours - heck DAYS - of digging through boxes, trying to redownload, and for that matter, trying to cinvince the publishers of your software that you're just doing a reinstall and "Please mister, can you help me recover my serial number?"
Well, fortunately I had installed Acronis True Image on my system. After installing all the software I regularly work with, I had made a backup "image" of the drive and saved it.
So, instead of spending hours locating and re-installing all my software, I just restored my hard drive with the backup image had I created. In no time - think less than an hour - everything was back to normal, all my software was in place, and I was back in business.
Special Note To Users Thinking About Upgrading To Windows 7 - If you're thinking about doing a Windows 7 upgrade, that's another fantastic reason to get this software. Most of the time upgrades go good, but what happens if it's a disaster? Well, if you have an image of your old XP install, you can just do a quick restore! If you value your programs and data, then this is a MUST HAVE before going the Win 7 route!!
I can't tell you how happy I am with True Image. I absolutely love it! It worked great and saved my digital behind. In light of this, I wanted to run it in this newsletter at a discounted price. Here's the info:
Finally! Backups Made Easy! (really easy)
OK, you know the drill. You should backup your computer. Now - be honest - do you "forget" to back up from time to time? It's OK, I have a hard time getting to it myself - it's such a pain in the digital rear.
Well, all that ended for me when I started using a fantastic program called Acronis True Image 9. It makes backing up your entire computer incredibly easy. And easy is good, right?

What this software does is to make an "image" (exact copy) of your hard drive. Now, this image can be created on another hard drive, an external drive, zip drive, a partition of your current drive, or on a set of CDs or DVDs - whatever you prefer. It's fast and extremely easy to do. You can even password protect the backups!
Oh, and using it is really a breeze. Just click the Create Image button and follow the easy-to-understand wizard. You don't have to be a computer genius to use this one - everything is explained in easy to understand language at every step - one of the reasons I'm happy to recommend this on to ya!

Oh, and restoring is just as easy. You can create a rescue CD, DVD, or floppy and boot right to it when disaster strikes. Restore your backup and in no time you're back in business! I LOVE it!!
As an added bonus, this makes it a breeze to put a larger hard drive into your computer. I mean, let's face it - eventually you'll run out of HD space. Happens to me on a regular basis. Well, this can help you set up a new hard drive and get it ready for data. Once that's done, it can clone your current drive onto the new one - making an exact copy of all the data! Just make your new drive the master drive and your upgrade is done! It's never been so easy to upgrade your hard drive!! This alone is worth the price of the software!
Think about it - there are dozens of ways you could lose the data and programs on your hard drive. You could be hit with a virus, have a hard drive crash, experience a power surge, accidentally drop the computer, even have bad program install (been there, done that - over and over again). Oh, and if you're going the Windows 7 route soon, it's insane not to have a complete image of your hard drive backed up somewhere safe! If disaster strikes, what will happen? Will it take weeks to get back to normal - assuming you even can get back to normal? This software really gives you peace of mind when it comes to your data protection.
When disaster strikes (not if, when) this software can have you back up and running in no time. Just imagine what would happen if you had a little disaster right now as you're reading this. How long would it take you to recover your data? To reinstall your programs (and find all those serial numbers)? How much productivity and money would you lose? To me, it's crazy not to have software like this on your computer. We hear all day long about data disasters here at WS - and they ALL could have been prevented with this software.
See my point? This is a very good thing to have!
Now, this software has an origional retail of $50, but your price is just $14.97! Yes - that's about 70% off! And yes, US shipping is FREE! Here's the link for more info:

Q:
When I make a change to a program or in Control Panel, should I hit
"Apply" before "OK" or is just "OK" fine?
A:
Hitting OK will apply the changes that you want made, so you don't
need to hit "Apply" first.

Where Apply comes in handy is when you are making a change to your
desktop
(theme, color scheme) or
Display Properties (screen resolution,
color quality) and you want to check the result without exiting out
of the control.
Another time when you could use Apply is if you want to make
multiple changes in a particular area but want to test the affect
of each before proceeding.
Some people just feel more secure hitting Apply before OK. If this
is you, then click away.

Love Those Symbols
Do you find that you're
constantly in MS Word's Symbol dialog box trying to insert one thing or
another?
Ever use more than
one symbol in your document? Did you know in advance that you'd need them
all?
If you did, then I've
got to ask: How many times did you open that Symbols dialog box?
More than you wanted
to, I'm sure. So, your next thought has to be if there's a way to minimize
all the time spent opening and closing the Symbol dialog box.
It's a good thought
and if you know in advance what you'll need, you can work on reducing
the time you spend accessing the Symbols.
Here's the deal. I
don't know if you've ever noticed, but when you click the Insert
button in the Symbol dialog box it doesn't close. Yes, the symbol is inserted
into your document, but the dialog box stays open and active.
Now, if you're using
an older version of Word and you know in advance that you'll
need multiple symbols, you can insert them one after another without
closing the Symbol dialog box at all. After the first one, select another
and click Insert again.
Sure, Word's going
to put them one after another into your document, so you might want to
place them at an easy location to find. But, once they're all in the document,
you can cut and paste them to the correct location without all the extra
hassle with menus and the Symbol dialog box.
If you're using Word
2007 you have a distinct advantage on this one. You'll find that
Word will allow you to edit the document while the Symbol dialog
box is still open. This speeds up the process since you can place
them where you need them avoiding the cut and paste step necessary in
previous versions.
I just love it when
I find a new way to save some time!

The Computer Crank-Up YOU'VE Been Waiting For!
This Smokin' Hot Software Is STILL FLYIN' Out The Door!
It's A Supercharger For Your Computer!
Fix, Optimize, And Crank Up Your Windows Registry - Automatically!
(Amazing - It Found Over 3000 Registry Errors On My Computer - And Fixed 'Em In Less Than A Minute!)
Fixes Weird Errors, Sluggish Systems, Random Lockups And MORE!
Knock Out System Hoggin' Start-Up Programs And Watch Your Computer FLY!!
Clean Out The JUNK And Get TONS Of Hard Drive Space Back!
In Less Than 30 Minutes, Your Computer Can Be Wicked Fast
Maybe Even Better Than New!
WOW - Now THAT'S An Optimizer!!
Know what's really frustrating? When you're trying to work on your computer and it randomly locks up, crashes, gets sluggish, pops up weird error messages, and just doesn't preform like it did back when it was new. Don't ya just hate that? Oh, and what about startup? Does it seem like you can turn on your computer, go out for lunch, come back and then maybe - just MAYBE - the stupid thing will be finished booting up?
I hear ya!
Well, we just discovered one of the coolest programs ever for optimizing your computer and getting it running like new! It's called Registry Repair and oh, is this thing absolutely LOADED!
Get Ready To Be Blown Away!

Check it out - this must-have program can...
Optimize & Speed Up Your Windows Registry - Automatically!
Scan, Find, Fix And Repair Registry Errors - Again, Automatically!
Supercharge Your Windows Startup Time!
Backup Your Windows Registry (THIS can be a lifesaver)
Clean Out ALL The Excess Junk Taking Up Space On Your Hard Drive!
And TONS MORE!
OK, I know, I know, you're worried about rootin' around in your registry and trying to fix things - and hey, that's a valid concern! One wrong move in the Windows Registry, and BAM!! You may be up a digital creek without a paddle! Well, that's where this amazing new software comes in!
Registry Repair makes it EASY for ANYONE of ANY skill level to optimize their registry for the absolute BEST performance! It's SOOOOOO simple! We're talking 3 steps - and all you're really required to do is press a mouse button to tell it to go to the next step! WOW!
Step 1. Run a scan - The software will deep-scan your Windows registry and uncover all the obsolete, erroneous, or leftover entries you need to get rid of so your computer can run like a top-end Italian sports car! It will uncover errors of ALL kinds - uninstall entries, font entries, shared DLL problems, help files trouble, old windows startup items, program shortcuts - and TONS more! Again - this is all automatic! REALLY! Just press SCAN and sit back for a few minutes!
Can you imagine trying to find all that yourself???? Talk about a all-weekend long project! Ouch!

Step 2. After the scan, it will show you what it found and ask if you want to fix the problems. Take a look at the screen shot below - that's my computer - and it had literally THOUSANDS of problems that this uncovered in a matter of minutes! Normally, it would take hours - heck DAYS - to find and fix all that! Blows your mind, doesn't it?

Well, with this amazing software, fixing all those trouble spots couldn't be easier! Just press the "Fix Errors" button!! The program leaps to action and fixes all the messed up registry entries in no time (less than a minute in my case)! All automatic!! Oh, and running it solved several little minor ongoing problems I've been having (including a weird little thing with my mouse cursor "sticking" on the screen) - all fixed now! I LOVE this thing!
Mind-blowingly, jaw-droppingly INCREDIBLE!!
Step 3. OK, there really isn't a 3rd step - it just shows you that it finished the job! How cool is that?
Now, if that's all it did, it would be WELL worth the money! BUT - it gets even better!
This also has the best start-up manager I've ever seen! See, here's the problem - the more stuff you install on your computer, the more stuff that seems to get added to Windows startup. Basically you end up with dozens and dozens of memory-hoggin' programs running in the background that, frankly don't do ya any good! And OUCH - They will SLOOOOOOWWWW things down big time and literally bring your computer to its digital knees!!
Want your speed back? Wait till you see this!
Just run this software and click the Startup button! You'll be greeted with a (possibly long) list of programs that start up everytime your computer does! These insidious little guys run unseen in the background and are HUGE reason for slow computers and boot ups that seem to take all day! Sure, some are OK and you'll need them, but most - dump 'em and enjoy a faster computer!
Now, unlike using other software, this REALLY digs deep into your system - it doesn't miss a thing! I saw stuff that was leftover from uninstalled programs I thought I'd gotten rid of months ago! Windows was still trying to start these things every time it started! I've used other methods to disable this stuff but ya know - a LOT of this garbage simply didn't show up ANYWHERE ELSE - but THIS found 'em! That's super-impressive!!

Once you have the list, this makes it easy to get rid of the stuff you don't need, and keep what you do need - we're talking just a few simple mouse clicks! WOW - INSTANT pick-me-up for your computer!!
Oh, and once you reboot after cleaning out all the excess junk get ready to see some SPEED come back to your computer! Not only will it boot into Windows a heck of a lot quicker, it will run a LOT faster once it gets there!
I tell ya, THIS is the single most effective way to make your computer run faster! NOTHING - and I mean NOTHING - will give you sooooo much improvement so fast and for so little invested!
Pretty cool huh - a faster, leaner, less-error prone registry that keeps your computer nice and stable PLUS a faster boot-up AND a quicker computer overall! Told ya this was impressive - but that's not all!
This comprehensive software is also the "Mr. Clean" of the computer world! This has a disk cleanup that can recover AMAZING amounts of space! I honestly couldn't believe how much space this was able to recover on my computer - we're talking nearly 3 GIGs when it was all said and done! And easy - heck, just press the Cleanup Button and place a check next to the area you want to clean!

I just did the "Windows" section for now, and WOW! It really dug in and found a TON of leftover junk sitting on my machine! Cool thing is that is scans first, so you KNOW what it's going to get rid of before it does! However, since it's just finding Temp files and such, it can all go!
Did I mention how easy this is? :)
Whew, OK that's the highlight show - this thing can do a TON of stuff for ya and - quite frankly - it's like strapping a SUPERCHARGER to your computer! It's THAT great!
Your cost for this incredible little software package? We're talking just $12.97 and US shipping is FREE! If you want the most our of your computer, this is REALLY a must-have. Oh, and if your struggling with random lockups, weird errors, slow and sluggish programs - then you REALLY (really, really, really) need to give this a try! It can save the day!
Check it out:
http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=5228
PS - This has got to be the best, most powerful way we've ever come across to optimize and tune-up your computer! Not only can it fix about a gazillion types of errors, it can make things run faster and even potentially recover TONS of hard drive space! A MUST-HAVE!!

Hitting the Target
Have you ever needed to get at a program's folder? Usually, it
involves opening Windows Explorer , then the Program Files folder,
then sifting around through all the sub-folders until you find what
you're looking for. Heck, even then you sometimes have to sort
through more sub-folder before you actually get to where you want
to go.
There's gotta be a better way, right?
Yup, there is. After all, this wouldn't be much of a tip if I
would have answered "no"!
Anyhow, to quickly get to a program's folder, right click the program in question's icon and select "Properties".
Under the Shortcut Tab hit the "Find Target" button. If you're using Windows Vista it's called "Open File Location".

Windows will open the folder for you.

Now you can see all the files in the Program Folder, including
the main program (.exe file).

Namechk
I love this site! It makes it so easy to check and see if the username you want is available on a plethora of different sites all at once! I only wish I had found it when I decided to get into social networking to begin with.
How does it work? Easy! Just type in the username you want and then click the green chk button. It will then check 122 different sites to see if your desired name is taken. Click show all 122 to see all the results, it is set to default to just show you the most popular results.
If the result is green, your username is available, click the name of the site you want it at to go register it before someone else takes it. If it is blue – that means it might be available but the application can’t sort it out for you because there are private profiles on that site. If it is red – it means that the username you searched is taken.
This site is particularly wonderful for anyone just getting into social networking because you could check your username and then go get it everywhere. It is also great for setting up a blog, and social networking to go with it!
