Another Windows Activation Key

This one is a reader request!

I know there has to be some “format freaks” out there like me. If something minor goes wrong with my PC, I format and re-install Windows. Although this might sound a little extreme, I just love that new installation feeling! So, for all of you extremists out there that bring an axe to cut your steak, I'm going to hook you up with a secret I learned about Windows Activation.

If you've ever reinstalled your operating system, or installed Windows from the same disk on another computer, you know that eventually you'll run out of activation licenses. This means, no more installs from your Windows disk! How is that right? I spent all this money on a product and I can only use it a certain number of times? What gives!?

No fears, folks! You can just give Microsoft a little phone call and eek out another installation. Just call the Microsoft Windows Vista Consumer Product Activation Phone Number at: 1-866-740-1256, and with little to no persuasion, the helpful folks at MS will grant you another license key!

It's that easy! Just don't abuse the privilege!

Incredible Power At Your Fingertips!

Quick Note From Steve - Hey everyone - thanks for checking this out! We've featured this amazing software in the past, but lately haven't been able to get any deals on it. Well, yesterday our supplier calls and tells us they just made a HUGE purchase and could sell us this title at an unheard of price! Well, once I discovered what an amazing deal it was, I had to share it with you! This is easily going to be the BEST $7.97 you EVER spend! This compares with programs costing HUNDREDS more! Do yourself a favor - give this a try! You'll be glad you did :-)

I'm so excited! I bet you've never seen anything quite like this one before! We have Page Designer Pro and it's some really amazing, professional-level desktop publishing software that's gonna absolutely blow you away! This makes PrintShop look like a toy! Check this out:

First off, this is a LOT like Adobe InDesign, just an amazing $692 LESS than what Adobe gets for their version! It's meant for - and does - pretty much the same thing - pro level design and print. You can literally create ANYTHING you can imagine with this software. This is truly a high-end desktop publishing solution and the power it brings is amazing. Talk about blown-away by what you can do with a computer and printer!!

Page Designer Pro

The first thing you'll notice when you start it up is your choice between a really handy wizard interface or the option to start a project from scratch. When you first start playing with it, just go ahead and take a look at what those wizards can do for you (over 2000 designs)! You'll be amazed at just how quickly you can create ads, brochures, business stationery, calendars, cards, letterheads, invoices, flyers, forms, newsletters, notices, handouts, event programs, posters, banners, price lists, reports, announcements, invitations, greeting cards and TONS more!

What that brings to the table with the amazing "wizards" is easily enough to justify this fantastic program, but that's only the beginning! After you're done checking out the wizards, go ahead and start a project from scratch - you're gonna be absolutely floored at how quickly you can produce professional level projects! This is the kind of software they use in professional print shops! Once you start messing around with it, you'll discover very soon you start to feel like a professional graphics artist!

As for features, this thing is the 800LB gorilla of desktop publishing! For example, just wait till you start playing with dozens and dozens of preset color schemes for your projects! Change the look and feel of your project in a mouse click! Great to use with the wizards to instantly change the look and feel of, well, ANY project!

Oh, and wait till you feast your mouse on the professional layout tools! Talk about a kid in a candy store! This has everything you need (and probably more)! We're talking intelligent text fitting (nice), kerning, hyphenation, drop caps, smart quotes, named styles, movable ruler and guides, precision placements, rotation, calendar tools, tables, brush / pencils, gradients, fills, shapes, all kind of text, frames and TONS more! I could fill the length of this review with JUST the tools at your disposal!

Page Designer Pro

PLUS, you've absolutely got to check out the Text Composition Tools - you'll love these things! Get this - you have all the following at your beck and call: Word count, spell checker, search & replace, a thesaurus, AutoCorrect, AutoSpell, over 300 new fonts, and - get this - a proofreader! That's right - you can have the program actually "read" your text and it can make suggestions for improvements! Now THAT'S cool!

Another feature you'll really love is the amazing "Text On A Path" tool! Here's how it works - You create a "path" using your mouse in any shape you want - a squiggly line, a square, a letter - whatever you can dream up. Then, double-click and start typing - your text will actually follow along the path you created, twisting and turning all along the way! Soooo cool!

You've gotta try the QuickShapes too! These aren't just the lousy shapes you drop into Word or something. These are basically intelligent clipart! Choose a shape, drag & drop it on your document, then adjust each angle and dimension using the little handles! Oh, and you can fill the shapes, do different "styles" , put in a gradient, add a photo, and MORE! The options are fantastic!

Oh, but the drawing fun isn't just limited to the QuickShapes! This has an amazing arsenal of drawing tools that you have to see to believe! You can sketch freehand, apply some really cool styles, make custom shapes, and create all kinds of eye-popping graphics in minutes! You could literally design your own clipart!

What if you have a photo you want to drop in? Yup, not only can you add any photo, you can even enhance it right in the program so it looks amazing in just a few mouse clicks! Once it's in the program, there's dozens and dozens of ways you can use it!

Page Designer Pro

Hey, have you ever needed to place a photo in with a bunch of text and couldn't get the text to "flow" right around it? Sometimes the text runs though your photos, sometimes the text gets blocked out, pushed around, or just ends up looking wrong. Well, this lets you easily reshape, rotate, and adjust your text frames to make your next project look like a magazine spread!

Heck, did I mention this can even create a website for you? Imagine the power above put into a web design program! It has all the tools you need to quickly and easily create professional looking webpages! Add text, graphics, animated gif, music, java - it can do it!

As if all that wasn't enough, this can also do mail merges, has some really cool transparency effects (so you can "see through" objects that are on top of other objects), mind-blowing versatility in printing, allows for outstanding PDF output, and even includes a PANTONE library if you're outputting your work for press publication! Told ya it was loaded!

BONUS!!! BONUS!!! Can you believe this? It also includes a second CD with a whoppin' 100,000 graphics crammed onto it! Clip art, photos, it's all there and at your fingertips! This alone is worth the price of the software! With 100,000 images to choose from, you'll always be able to find the exact graphic you need for your projects!

Your cost for all this? Just $7.97 and US shipping is FREE! After using this for just a little bit, I can't believe we got these for this kind of price! Our supplier must be nuts!

It's really the best $7.97 you'll ever spend on desktop publishing! Honestly, if we were selling it for the $40 retail, it would STILL be well worth the price!  This is truly a professional level program that looks and works an awful lot like Adobe's $700 InDesign! If you want to do some serious desktop publishing, there's never been a cheaper way to get serious about it! $7.97!! Once you start using it, you'll agree that it's crazy for anyone to pass this by! You're not gonna believe what you get for less than $10!

You've gotta give this a try because for this kind of money you just can't afford to pass it by!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4770

PS - Bad news? Only a limited quantity of these are available, so you need to get to the site ASAP to grab your copy! You'll be completely blown away at how you can get software this powerful for $7.97!!!

Q:
Is there a way to print my Favorites?

A:
Yes and No. You don't have an option where you can right click your favorites and choose "Print" or anything like that, but there is a procedure whereby you can create a printable HTML document.

First we need to create the HTML list. With Internet Explorer go to File / Import and Export to bring up the "Import/Export Wizard". Check "Export to a File" and click Next.

In the next screen, select "Favorites" and click Next.

If your favorites are organized into folders you can choose to save all (that would be the top folder "Favorites", or just a specific folder.)

image

Now you're going to choose a place for the file to export to. Select the "Browse" button and save it to your desktop for easy finding.

Click "Export" and you're done with the first part.

Now, what to do with this file.

Browse to and double click your exported file. It will open up in Internet Explorer. Notice that it is just a page of names with clickable links. Don't panic, we can print the URLs—stay with me.

Go to File>Print and under the "Options" tab check the "Print table of links" box then OK.

image

Push the "Print" button and you'll have a list with addresses!

You can export a list of Firefox bookmarks too: Go to Bookmarks>Organize Bookmarks then Import and Backup. Choose a location and name (again, I suggest the desktop) then Save. The only trick here for printing is that you'll need to open the HTML file with Internet Explorer and print using the method above.

MS Office

Where Did I File That Message?

Ever find yourself searching for a message from a specific sender?

How did that go?

Unless you actually sort saved messages into folders based on the sender you could have messages from a single person all over the place.

So… needless to say, when you go to search for a specific one the question becomes "Where did I put it?"

Or, you're finding yourself busy trying to run searches for keywords and it just gets to be quite a headache.

Therefore, today I offer an alternative to the aspirin you were considering for that headache.

MS Outlook has a handy little feature that will locate all messages from a single sender regardless of where you have them stored.

Sounds like a plan to me so let's take a look.

To make this as easy as possible, start by highlighting a message from the sender we seek.

Now we're off to the Tools menu.

In the Tools menu we need either Instant Search or Find (depends upon your version of Outlook… big surprise, I know) then we need to choose Messages from Sender.

An Advanced Find dialog box will open that is already busy populating the bottom portion with all the messages it can find from that sender.

At this point you only need to look through that list to locate the message you seek.

If you need to narrow it down some more then use the top portion of the Messages tab to refine your search.

At the top you'll find a field labeled "Search for word(s)" and just below that a drop-down list to choose where Outlook should look.

As you can see, my initial search came up with 779 Computer Tips messages from Steve and after doing a keyword search for Outlook in the body of the message I now have 294.

OK - so maybe that's not a great example since there are still so many but then again how many people send you that many messages? It has taken me years to save that many Computer Tips issues so a search for messages from anyone else would never yield that many to start with.

Chances are your initial search would never come up with this many so, obviously, a more refined search should give you even less.

At any rate, double-click on any message in the list to open it and when you've found what you need close the dialog box and go on with your day.

Tip of the Day

Hidden Drives

If you share your computer with other people, you know privacy and security are very important. Thankfully, Windows XP allows you to have different user accounts for all the people using the same computer. These accounts can be password protected, but passwords alone do not always provide the best security and privacy.

You can encrypt and protect your My Documents folder and other personal folders with NTFS security options, but a curious user can still see your folders, their size and name -even if he can’t access them.

An extra layer of protection is never a bad idea if you share your computer with other people and you have private data stored on it.

One way to keep curious people from spying on your protected files and folders is to hide all the drives on your computer and make them invisible in Windows Explorer and My Computer. A quick simple change to the Windows Registry will allow you to protect your drives from prying eyes.

This Registry change only works in Windows XP, Windows Vista and the new Windows 7 have a modified Registry structure that prohibits these kinds of changes.

NOTE: Worldstart advises contacting a professional before you go pokin' around in the registry. There's some sensitive stuff in there!

To change a Registry setting we must first open the Registry Editor.

Go to the Start Menu and click on the Run command, situated above the Turn off Computer button. Then type the command "regedit" in the Open box and click the OK button.

The Registry Editor will now open.

The setting we need to change is located in the Registry structure, at the following address: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

You must first click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, to reveal Software.

Then click the plus sign, next to Software, to reveal Microsoft.

Next click the plus sign, next to Microsoft, to reveal Windows.

Now click the plus sign, next to Windows, to reveal CurrentVersion.

Then click the plus sign, next to CurrentVersion, to reveal Policies.

Finally click the plus sign, next to Policies, to reveal Explorer.

Left click on the Explorer key and then right click on an empty spot on the right side of the Registry Editor window.

Click New, and from the menu, select and click on DWORD Value.

Type NoDrives and press Enter from the keyboard.

Right click on the NoDrives value and from the menu select Modify.

In the dialog box, type 3ffffff (a 3 followed by six f’s) and click the OK button.

Now exit the Registry Editor by clicking File and then Exit from the menu.

The last step requires you restart the computer to make your drives invisible in Windows Explorer and My Computer.

Although your drives seem to be invisible, they are still there and can be accessed from within programs such as Microsoft Word.

If you wish to open an invisible drive in Windows Explorer, open My Computer and in the Address field type the path to the drive you want to access (for example C:\ ).

To make all your drives visible, open the Registry Editor. Follow the steps above to reach the Explorer key and right click on the NoDrives value. From the menu select Delete and click Yes when the confirmation box appears.

Restart your computer and all your drives will return to normal.

Today's Feature

AxCrypt

For the longest time, I've been looking for a free program that would allow me to safely encrypt certain files on my computer. I have tried many different freeware options, but none were as secure or as easy to use as the program I'm going to show you today. It's called AxCrypt and it's bursting with magnificent features. Let's check it out, shall we?!

1.) If you want to begin encrypting or password protecting your files, you’ll get some good use out of AxCrypt. Here's the download link.

2.) Follow the setup instructions and after it has completed, exit out of the setup wizard.

3.) If you already have a folder with all of the files you want to encrypt, that’s great! If not, create a folder and then continue to step 4.

4.) Right click on the folder and scroll down to AxCrypt. Next, select Encrypt and a box will prompt you to enter and confirm a password.

Do that and then click OK.

5.) Now, open your folder and you'll notice that the icons have changed. Double click on one of the files and once again, you'll be asked for your password. The file will only open if the password is entered.

6.) While using a password to secure your files is a good idea, a key-file is even more secure. A key-file is a special text file containing a random string of characters, which is your key. The file is placed on a USB drive, which means the encrypted folder can only be opened if the USB drive is plugged in and AxCrypt is pointed to the correct key-file. If that sounds a little too complicated, don’t worry! It will all make sense once you're finished.

7.) So, go ahead and plug in your USB drive (flash drive) if you have one. You can also use a floppy disk if you'd like. Right click on your encrypted folder, click AxCrypt, then Make Key-File.

8.) Find the directory for your USB drive and click Save. Open the Encrypt dialogue box again and enter your password twice. Also, where it says Key-File, choose the one you just saved on your USB drive and click OK.

9.) Now, when you try to open a file in the encrypted folder, you will be prompted to select the key-file. Someone who doesn’t have access to your USB drive will not be able to open the files, even if they do know your password.

10.) You feel safer already, don’t you?! It’s good to know that all of your private documents can only be accessed if the USB drive is present. It’s very important for you to never accidentally delete the key-file. It’s actually a good idea to make a copy of it and keep it on another disk somewhere safe.

11.) Finally, I have one last feature to show you! Have you ever felt a little leery about deleting files with sensitive information? You wouldn’t want that information to reach the wrong hands, now would you? Luckily, AxCrypt contains a shredding feature that overwrites the deleted files with random information.

12.) If you want to “shred” a file, right click on it, choose AxCrypt and then select Shred and Delete. That's it!

I hope you enjoy AxCrypt. Stay safe!

Macaroni and Cheese Recipes

One of my friends got married last summer, and has been trying to teach herself to cook. The other day she called me up and asked me if I had a good recipe for making macaroni and cheese. While I do have a good recipe, the instructions are a pinch of this, and a dash of that – not a problem for me since I grew up making it with my mom; but not great for a beginner.

So I went hunting for a good recipe for her, and told her I’d e-mail the link to her.

I found a site that is dedicated to just macaroni and cheese and the many ways you can make it.

You’ll find recipes here for: microwave, stovetop, oven, and crock pot preparations. You’ll even find a recipe for fried macaroni and cheese balls!

You’ll also find a link to give your macaroni and cheese a makeover that talks about mixing up the cheeses you use or finding healthy pasta to use instead, or even what you can add that will give it a zing!

Below the makeover link, you’ll find a link to macaroni and cheese’s history! There you will learn where about the history and what made Kraft decide to mass market it. At the top of this section you can find a link to Cheeses. The Cheeses section describes many different kinds of cheese.

Of the recipes on here I can’t wait to try the gourmet version, and the fried version. Which recipe will you try out?

Hey, maybe you just want to actually ENJOY Windows XP instead of fighting with it all the time! Say goodbye to the headaches and save your aspirin for dealin' with the kids! We have Professor Teaches Windows XP and it's a real stunner!!

First off, this software features 75 topics for XP (Pro And Home), PLUS 59 excellent tricks and tips for internet explorer! That's over 125 absolutely fantastic multimedia presentations that show you how all the great XP features work - wait till you see what you've been missing! You'll really love how easy these terrific presentations are to follow and watch! What's exciting about this software is that you're not just reading a dull page of text; this uses engaging audio and video to explain exactly how you do something! PLUS just wait till you see how thoroughly they cover each topic - there's not a single mouse click left out of the presentation! This won't leave you guessing - it'll leave you knowing EXACTLY what to do! It's like having Bill Gates sitting next to you, going over XP step by step (only this is a little cheaper :-)!

The presentations are incredible, but ti doesn't stop there! Are you one of those people that learn better by "trying it out" on your own? Well, this has an amazing Windows XP Simulator built in! It works like this - you watch a lesson, then you can actually "try" it - just like you were using Windows, only you're not going to be able to mess anything up! How cool is that? If that's not the smartest way ever to teach Windows, I don't know what is! It's really like having a private computer tutor! Heck, you can even take a quiz at the end of the chapters to test your knowledge!

Plus, you'll really love the way the presentations progress too- they won't leave you behind scratching your head! You'll start off with the basics, then move on to more advanced topics as you learn. Of course, you can always skip back and review, but let me tell ya, as good as this software is, you probably won't need to! Plus, if you need a quick fix to a problem, you can skip to any topic at any time!
