Quick Tips

Check your Hard Drive Space

Curious to see just how much hard drive space you have left on your computer?

In either Windows XP or Vista, click Start>Computer (My Computer for XP users). Right-click on the drive that you'd like to check and select “properties”. A window will pop up with a pie-chart that details how much space you have left to work with.

image

Alternatively, you can just go Start>Computer and single left click on the drive you want to check. Depending on which version of Windows you have, you should see a sidebar with the HDD info.

Now you know your storage limitations!

Our #1 Seller Is Back!! You begged and you pleaded and we finally got more PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant. Better grab yours before they're gone!!

Oh The Horror!

Microsoft Leaves XP & Vista Users Out In The Cold!

XP Users Can't Upgrade To Windows 7!

Even Most Vista Users Can't Do A Direct Upgrade!

Sure, You Can Use The "Upgrade" Disk But...

You'll Kiss Your Programs Goodbye -

Yikes! - And Your Files Are "Relocated"!

We Have A Solution - And It ROCKS!

Upgrade To Win 7 - And KEEP Your Programs And Files!

You'd Have To Be Crazier Than An Outhouse Rat To Miss This Deal!

Well, this is disturbing...

OK, you would LOVE to upgrade your XP computer (or Vista) to Windows 7 - After all, Win 7 is much more secure, easier to use, and is without question the best version of Windows ever. Heck, it's had record-breaking sales with 150 MILLION copies sold - that's seven copies a SECOND since its release!

Only one problem - if you're running Windows XP, you can't really upgrade to Windows 7. (And Vista users even have issues - see the site for a chart)

Sure, you can buy an "upgrade" disk, but none of your files or programs will make it to Windows 7. It's a new install, not a true upgrade - you know, the kind where you keep everything.

Kind of a "you can't get there from here" deal.

OK, you technically get to keep your files - but that doesn't even work right!

See, once you're upgraded, your files aren't where you'd expect them to be! You look under My Documents, but - hey - it's empty!

Instead, the Win7 installer dumped them in a folder called "windows.old" in the root directory of your boot drive - yeah, good luck finding what you're looking for! Oh, and then it's up to you to restore them to where they belong.

Then there's your software - Think all those program you rely on every day are going to survive the upgrade?

HA! Sorry, they're toast.

You'll have to reinstall each and every program - hope you still have all the CDs and download files (I know I don't).

Just think - hours and hours of rifling through boxes and drawers hunting for CDs, searching for registration codes, downloading updates, negotiating with publishers that you really DID buy their product - yeah, sounds like a real blast...

Should only take you a few weeks to get things back to normal. If you can.

Oh, and forget any ideas of just copying the folders your software is in to the new operating system - that never works - too many support files are scattered around Windows. In fact, nine times out of ten the program won't even run. And the tenth program runs, but doesn't work right.

Hmm... Maybe this upgrade thing wasn't such a hot idea after all...

Laplink To The Rescue!

They have an amazing program called PCMover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant and it's going to save your day (and your sanity)! This incredible software does what Microsoft refuses to - and it's made SPECIFICALLY for moving from XP or Vista to Windows 7!

It allows you to upgrade to Windows 7...

AND keep your FILES and SOFTWARE intact and where you'd expect to find them!

How cool is that?????

And it's SOOOOOOO easy!

Let's say you purchased your copy of Windows 7 Upgrade and you're ready to take the plunge. It's a quick 3 step process:

1. Simply insert the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant disk and follow a few steps on the easy to use wizard.

2. Next, pop your new Windows 7 CD in when prompted and install.

3. Once Windows 7 is ready to go, pop your Upgrade Assistant CD back in, and restore your software and files!

It's that easy!

We tested this, and let me tell ya - it just plain WORKS!

It's so easy...

After the first couple screens, it will ask you about the files you want to migrate - you just uncheck anything you don't want! If there's stuff you don't need anymore, just uncheck it. If it missed something (say, a file you keep in a weird folder someplace), you can manually add it!

Another screen or two brings you to software. You'll get a list of software you can migrate over - and what's really cool is that YOU get to pick and choose which programs follow you over to Windows 7! So, if there's a few you never use anymore, just leave 'em unchecked! It's like a clean-up and move all at once!

From there, it backs up your files and data, you install Windows 7, then reinsert your PCMover Upgrade Assistant CD and restore ALL your stuff! Files will be where you expect to find them and your software will survive the trip too - all ready for your next command!

You'll be rockin' Windows 7 - and have all your stuff too!

Instead of days or even weeks, you'll be good to go in an hour or so!

Oh, and I'm not the only one who thinks this is fantastic. Look at the rave reviews!

Computers 101

Ted from NY asks:
Any suggestions for free Internet TV providers?

A:
Sure, Ted!

It is hard living in cash strapped times with the global economy going up and down like a yo-yo. Everyone is trying to rein in their spending habits a little and compromise on some of the luxuries in life. But rather than scrapping some of the finer and more reasonable home comforts, why not combine them into one easy and more manageable package? Internet TV is one of the newest things to really take the market place by storm, since it provides free programs on the internet. Here are five great options that may be worth considering, some better than others, but each one may suit individual tastes better than another. Take a look at them all to find out which is the best.

1. Joost

A mainstream and reliable brand, Joost has made its name by providing a vast and wide ranging selection of program options that all cable companies charge the earth for. A downside to the household name is that it relies on streaming, and as such the quality can vary depending on your broadband connections reliability and speed. Despite this, it is still an underrated provider of this service. Over time, it is slowly developing and growing into a better and higher class model of itself. Well worth a try out.

2. AnyTV

Anything endorsed by PC World cannot be at the bottom of the heap in terms of quality. With a regular and reliable array of program options, it is worth a look at to see if it would be a good choice in terms of value for money.

3. Hulu

Hulu is a pioneer US provider that exudes quality and a great range of program choices. It is definitely one to consider, especially if a wide variety of global television is high on your list of priorities. With a high quality download rate and all sorts of shows, including The Simpsons, it is fully capable of entertaining the crowds all day. This is a must-try.

4. Fancast

Fancast provides perhaps the highest quality of programming and stands up there with regular high-def cable providers. The main competition of Hulu, this provider is a newer version with fewer subscribers, but it’s also slightly slicker and easier to use, too. It features default settings to fit programs to your monitor, which is great for those who are less techno-minded.

5. Miro

Miro is the top of the tops. The crème de la crème. Simply the best. Available to the world, it is the best global internet TV provider without a shadow of doubt. It is a very accessible site which is easy to use, even for a first time streamer, and has swift downloading speed and excellent quality. Definitely worth your time.

Intel Anti-Theft Technology

image

While wandering through the Intel display at CES this year, I came across some pretty exciting anti-theft technology that's developing. I'm sure that many of you have heard of Lo-Jack. They are best known for providing tracking technology for recovering stolen cars. Well, it seems that Intel and Lo-Jack have been working together to provide a similar technology for laptops. Intel provides the hardware to make it work, and Lo-Jack provides the tracking and recovery services.

Home Repairs How To

This site has a ton of how-to articles on home repairs. If you scroll down just a little bit on the screen you’ll see all the different categories of repair available. I came here looking for a fix for my stairway. I not only learned how to fix the problem, but I also learned how stairs are designed to work.

Besides the plethora of repair guides down the front of the page, there are also navigation options on the left menu. They are: Fix-It Basics, Fix-It Tips, Parts& Components, Recycling, Apparel & Jewelry, Electrical, Electronics, Exercise & Leisure, Heating & Cooling, Home Exterior, Home Interior, Major Appliances, Plumbing, Small Appliances, and Yard & Garden. I mention this option of navigating the site, because I was a little overwhelmed by the slew of links down the front of the page.

There is also a search field on the top of the page that will let you search for specific repairs. This might make it easier to find specific topics quickly.

It seems like no matter what you have to repair that you will find a repair solution here. Check it out today!
