Quick Tips
Windows Character Map

Have you ever needed a special character? No, I'm not talking about phoning up Charlie Brown and asking him to referee your kid's soccer game -I'm talking about a special text character! Sure, there's a bunch of Alt codes you can use to get results, but if you're like me, you need a more visual approach.

So, in Windows 7 or Vista hit Start and type in Character Map in your search box. Now either hit Enter or double-click the Character Map icon that appears in the results.

This window should pop up.

From here, simply specify your font at the top and locate the special character you want to insert and double-click it. All of your selections will appear in the Characters to copy box, so all you have to do is hit the copy button when you’re done and then paste (CTRL+V) into your chosen program.

It’s just that easy!

Now You Too Can See In The Dark!

Classy Light That Will Lead The Way...

The Newest Innovation In Fluorescent Light Technology!

Turn It On, Turn It Off - OR- Turn It On Auto!

This Is Gonna Save You Tons Of Money!!

My 68 Year Old Grandma From California Reveals Hidden Secret To Staying Safe, Looking Classy, And Saving Money...

3.5 Second Overview: It's the newest innovation in Plug-In Fluorescent Light technology. This convenient Plug-In Light provides bright, indirect, energy-efficient lighting wherever there's an electric outlet! Use it as a standard switch on/off night light, or set it to turn on automatically as daylight decreases and off as daylight increases...

Picture this: Every winter, a few weeks after the new year, I go to California to visit my Grandmother. She lives in beautiful Palm Springs (as you can imagine it's nice to be there coming from old cold Ohio)... it's something new, it's something fresh and above all -it's warm!

Getting back on track, my grandmother lives in a condo there. It's a classy looking place (for a classy looking lady)... She may be 68 years old but she keeps the place looking sharp 24/7.

Though I noticed that there was something different this year, something magical. She had plugged in these fluorescent lights all around the house. Not everywhere, just in key areas. They matched well with the walls (any color)... and they plugged into only one outlet leaving the other one open.

They didn't take up too much space, and best off all they had a serious beneficial use, which was:

They kept my Grandmother safe. You see, at night they turn on and light up the hallways. She has one in every bathroom, which I thought was really cool and convenient! They really work great and it probably keeps my grandmother from maybe tripping over something in dark areas.

She is highly capable though, and she probably got them for her guests. You see, she lives alone, so family and friends from all over the country come visit her. It's not their (her family and friends) turf, and the fluorescent lighting makes the whole house feel more cozy - more like home to all her out-of-town guests.

My grandmother raised 13 healthy kids (I-kid-you-not!)... so she knows a thing or two about SAVING MONEY! She even told me herself, one of the reasons she bought this particular fluorescent plug-in light was because it was so energy efficient. Only used 6 watts and even has the option to turn in on or off, but even more importantly - you have the option to turn it on auto. On auto it automatically turns on at dusk and off during daylight - pure genius!!

Try it for free for 60 days. If this product doesn't light up your world, send it back for a complete no hassle refund. Order now for only $9.97 by clicking on the link below!

Absolutely Mind-Blowin' Card Reader Deal!

Just $6.97!!! Really!

WOW!! I Think I am Speechless!!!

Now That's A Price That'll Really Make You Smile!!! :-D

Only 100 Available - HURRY!!!!!

If I had to name my top favorite gadgets, card readers would definitely be on the list! I have so many SD cards, that a card reader is the only way I view what is stored on any given card. I just find them so cool and convenient. And they are so much easier to use than a messy cord. However, this amazing card reader really caught my attention, and I know it will catch yours too!

How do they work? Just pop in your camera's memory card and a folder will open showing you all your photos! Just drag and drop the photos to any folder on your computer! Or, to use as a storage device, do just the opposite ~ drag and drop your files from your computer onto the drive! I LOVE mine!

Everyone with an SD (secure digital), MMC, or RS card (or any variation thereof) will just LOVE this card reader!!

Think about it, what would be easier- popping out your memory card, sliding it into the card reader, and plugging it into your USB port? Or, finding that cable that came with your device, untangling it (because you know they are always tangled), plugging it into your USB port, transferring your files, then following the cord as you go through the jungle of cords behind your computer, searching for the correct USB port and finally unplugging it? I think that answer is a real no-brainer! Of course, the card reader option is the easiest way to transfer your information from your card to your computer or vice versa!

Next, let's discuss the design! This card reader is extremely compact and lightweight, therefore, making it perfect for anyone on the go!!! And the best part is, this card reader has Plug and Play, allowing it to work on any computer without having to install anything! Better yet, because you can transfer files to and from this card reader, it will work as a flash drive too!!!

Because it uses USB 2.0, this card reader has blistering fast data transfer speed, and will definitely satisfy all your data transfer needs. This is one that you just have to check out!!! I just adore it, and for the price of just $6.97 and US Shipping is Free, you will adore yours too!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/3250

P.S. Unfortunately, we only have a limited quantity of these in stock, and for that low price, I know they are going to just fly out the door! Order yours now, before they are gone!!!

PPS - The price WILL increase to $12.97 at 11:59pm, CST tonight

Computers 101

Mark H. asks:

I have Windows Media Player 11. There used to be a place at the top where I could click Play. I can't find it anywhere. Where is it?

A. Hi, Mark! You would think it would be right there all the time, wouldn't you? After all, everybody has to use it.

It's all about options. If you play a lot of music on your player, you might want to have the Play option displayed all of the time. If all you do is burn CDs from your player, then you may not want it shown since you don't need it all of the time. And of course, there's always the appearance of the program. It's all in what you want.

There are two ways to display the menu (where you can click on Play) on your player.

The first is the Classic Menu. This is where your menu is visible all of the time so that you don't have to do anything when you want to play something, you just left-click on Play and display the options.

This is the left half of the taskbar of Windows Media Player 11.0.

image

The second way of viewing Windows Media Player is by hiding the menu. You can access it; it just isn't visible all of the time. The way to access the menu is to go up to your taskbar (the bar that extends all the way across the top) and right-click on any empty area in the taskbar and the menu will pop up with options for you to customize the player to your liking.

This is Windows Media Player (11.0) when the menu is hidden.

image

Since you can't find Play at the top, Mark, your menu is obviously hidden. There a couple of ways to make it visible.

Right-click an empty area of the taskbar and the menu will pop up (just like before). To enable the Classic (visible) menu, go to Show Classic Menus (it's at the bottom) and click on it to put a check mark next to it. Now your menu is visible again.

This is what Windows Media Player looks like after I click Show Classic Menus.

image

The other way to display the Classic Menu view when it's hidden is to right-click an empty area of the taskbar and when the menu pops up, instead of going down to click on Show Classic Menus, you point to View to highlight it and then click go down the list (fifth option down) and click on Show Classic Menus. Either way displays the menu with Play in it – and it will stay on top.

image

Either option will produce this:

image

No looking for Play anymore!

Thanks for writing, Mark!

Tip of the Day

What is Social Networking?

I was thinking the other day how much and how quickly the internet changes. Social networking, for example, has exploded with new ways to interact that are introduced almost every day.

For those of you who are new to this concept (I didn’t even know what blog meant until three months after “everybody” was doing it), social networking is when people build online (usually non-local) communities (Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, etc.) to reach out to others who share the same interests.

There are a lot of ways to socially “connect” to people on the internet. You have to start somewhere, so here, in my humble opinion, are the top four “must-knows” of social networking.

Blog
image

It seems you cannot go anywhere without seeing the term “blog”.

A blog is a contraction for the term web log. It is basically an online journal that can be edited, read, or written in. Entries are usually posted in reverse-chronological order. If you submit one of these entries (post your thoughts), you are blogging.

Here’s something else: If you are passionate about something and want to discuss it with other people on the web, you could consider opening your own blog. Head on over to a blog setup site (blogger.com is the most popular, but there are others) and set up your own for free. They will guide you through all of the steps to get your very own blog up and running on the web. There are also other websites to go to that give great tips and advice for beginner bloggers.

Today's Feature
How to grip your camera for better photography

Digital photography has become accessible to all through cameraphones, point and shoots and of course, DSLRs. But there's one thing most beginners are unaware of: camera shake caused by wrong posture and holding of camera. These tips will tell you how to grip your camera for shake-free images and a better photography experience.

Wrong Way to hold the camera

Right way to hold the camera

Study your camera
With so many cameras on the market and one brand trying to one up the next, there are manufacturers who have understood that providing a sturdy grip makes more sense to beginners and professionals alike. If you are in the market for cameras, go for one that has a good grip. These could be in the form of grooves and thumbnails where you place your fingers or a rough surface, so you grip the camera right and don't drop it. The best way to judge this is to pick up the camera and hold it in any number of ways to see what works for you. Similarly, if you already have a camera, study it carefully and see what grip works best for your camera that enables steadier images. Most times, we fail to observe such minute details and spoil our photography.

Amanda's Coolsite
Plugged In

Welcome to Plugged In, a website devoted to bringing you family friendly movie, music, and video game reviews. This site offers you a way of making sure that the stuff your kids see, hear, and play are something you’d approve of. They even review rated R movies that are target towards teens.

The site is very easy to navigate. You'll find a search field right on the main page so if you're looking for something specific you can find it quickly. Along that that same navigation strip you'll find the categories: Home, Movies, Videos, Music, TV, and Games.

On the main page you can find featured articles, polls, blog entries, and so much more. I like that when you mouse over the bottom left featured items that little chat bubbles pop up and gives you a little bit of an intro to what that article is about.

I know that my parents were careful about what we were exposed to as kids, and I think that it gives me a real appreciation for choosing what I want to watch today. I’m glad that there are sites out here like this that are helping parents keep up with all the media their kids are consuming! Check it out today!
