Quick Tips

Save a Search in Windows 7 Explorer

Did you know that you can save a search string in Windows 7? It’s really helpful if you commonly search for one kind of item on your hard drive, so you don’t have to go typing it in every time.

Here’s how you do it.

First, open up Windows Explorer. You can either click Start>Computer, or type in Windows Explorer in your Search Box located above the Start button.

In the upper-right had portion of the Windows Explorer window, you’ll see a box where you can type your search in. I typed in jpeg, to search for all the jpeg files on my computer. (obviously you can use your own search term).

Once your results pop up, click the Save search button, which is located on the left side of the Windows Explorer window.

Another windows will pop up and ask you to name your saved search. I just click Save.

Now you’ll see your saved search under the Favorites section in the left column of Windows Explorer. You can click on it at anytime to automatically start your custom search!

How Neat!

Yes, most mice do have some sort of curved design that make them "look" ergonomic, but the truth is - those curves don't do much to help prevent wrist strain. Don't believe me that? Just check out the video below:

Yup, as you can see this mouse supports your hand in a relaxed neutral position, almost as if you're reaching out to shake someone's hand. The grip is the same as with an ordinary mouse... simply turned sideways, so your wrist is comfortable.

I know you're thinking...this thing looks awkward, so there's gotta be some sort of learning curve involved. Nope - the buttons are operated by the same fingers as an ordinary mouse, so virtually no retraining is necessary. This mouse even has a fantastic three button design with a scroll wheel that acts as the third button!

This mouse is pure bliss for any wrist!

This optical mouse has got incredible tracking too! With the Sky Vertical Optical Mouse you get the best of both worlds - comfort and efficiency!!

THE Hottest Item We've Ever Seen!

WOW!! This is SOOOO exciting! We just found your computer's new BEST FRIEND!! You are absolutely gonna LOVE this - It's the BAFO File Transfer Cable and it's totally gonna change your computing world - FOREVER! It's the ONE accessory EVERY computer user positively MUST-HAVE!!

See, we've heard about you and it's no secret - You need to get files from one computer to another! Only problem is getting the files from one place to another can be as frustrating as riding your bike across the Grand Canyon!

I mean, don't you just hate it when...

6 You get a brand new machine and your photos, music, and documents are all trapped on your old computer
5 You have a desktop and a laptop but sharing files between them is a complete nightmare
4 You and a friend want to swap files, but there just isn't an easy way
3 You have more than one computer in the house, and you'd like to get files from one to the other

Bottom line - You're gonna need to get files from one computer to another sooner or later!

Sure there's lots of ways to do it - and they all fall under "hard and miserable"! You could spend your afternoon burning CDs, emailing the files to yourself (please tell me you don't do that), or grabbing an Ethernet cable and networking the computers together.

7

Yeah, that didn't sound very good to me either. Come ON! Your time is WAY more valuable than that!! Right?

Join us here in this decade doin' it the EASY WAY...

Grab the amazing BAFO File Transfer Cable! It effortlessly networks your two computers together with just a cable - all automatic!

I looked up the word "easy" in the dictionary and I think I saw a picture of the BAFO File Transfer Cable!

How's it work?

Simple! Just plug one end into each computer's USB port - you're over half way done! That's right - if you can use a USB plug - YOU'RE already an expert! EASY!

Oh, and you'll absolutely love this - once you plug in, a friendly "Windows Explorer" style window automatically pops open so you can quickly drag and drop your files from one computer to another! That's really it! So easy it ought to be illegal!

YESSSSS!! This is works back and forth with everything from Win 98 right up to Windows 7 - talk about great compatibility!!!

1

Now, please note that these are USB 1.1, but no worries - this baby will get the job done! If you have just a handful of files you want transfered, this will take no time at all. If you have some larger files, you can just start the transfer and go grab a cup of coffee or lunch and all your files should be transfered when you return.

Without a DOUBT - this is the one accessory NO computer user should be without! Just imagine - next time you need to transfer documents, loads of photos, tons of music - it can all be done with this little cable! Oh, and you are in for a real TREAT when you upgrade to your next computer! You know ALL those files you need to get from one machine to another? Yup, use this cable, sit back, and relax! It's done baby!!

You and I BOTH know you've gotta be crazier than an outhouse rat to sit there trying to copy all your data to CDs or flash drives - or worse - trying to network two computers together just to get your data moved!

If you're ever, in your life, going to buy another computer YOU need this!! Heck, if you're ever going to transfer a batch of files from one computer to another you need this!

Best computer accessory. EVER.

PLUS...

YOU get a deal so smokin' hot you should need a permit from the fire dept.!

Today only, you can get this for just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE! Oh, and take it from me - once you get your hands on this bad boy you'll be patting yourself on the back for grabbin' it!! It's THAT good!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/6453

A word of warning though - this was a VERY limited quantity buyout, so once these are gone, we can't get more. Don't get left out in the cold - GRAB this deal today!

Computers 101

Austin asks :
Is there a way to back-up Windows updates (in my case, for Windows XP) to a CD, so if I ever have to format and re-install, I don't have to re-download everything?

Windows updates is a service by Microsoft which helps you to install the latest Windows components, hotfixes, security fixes, software upgrades e.g. Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer and so on. Security updates or critical updates eliminate vulnerability to known malware and security exploits.

Usually, updates are handled automatically via the Windows Update service, but there can be situations when you would want to store a local copy of Windows updates, so that you can install these updates on a computer without an internet connection. Another advantage of using a local copy is that when you format your computer, you do not have to download all the updates from scratch. You can install all the necessary service packs and other basic security fixes quickly.

Following are the steps involved to save a local copy of Windows updates in your computer’s hard disk, on a removable drive or in a CD/DVD:

1.First download Windows Update Downloader and install it on your computer.

2.Go to this page and select the operating system installed on your computer. Then download the corresponding updates list, as shown in the following image:

Make sure you choose the correct platform for your operating system. Choosing a different platform will not work.

3.Once you have downloaded the updates list and installed the application, you are ready to go. Run the Windows updates downloader and you will see the following screen:

Click “Ok” to continue.

4.Now double click on the updates list file and you will see a message window as “Compressed UL file installed”. Click “OK”.

Note: If you get an error message like, “Warning, .NET framework component is not installed”, you have to install the .NET framework first. Use this link to download and install the latest version of .NET framework from the Microsoft website.

5.Once you have clicked the UL file, return to the Windows updates downloader window and you will see a list of basic windows updates listed.

6.Choose the features you want to download and select the corresponding checkboxes. If you want to use these updates every time you format your system, it’s recommended to choose all the updates which includes service packs, Internet Explorer, critical upgrades, Windows Media Player, .Net framework an so on.

7.Click on the “Change” button and choose a folder in your computer where the files will be saved. Do not save the files in the operating system partition, choose a different partition (if possible) instead.

8.You are good to go. Now click the “Download” button and all the updates will be downloaded in the local folder specified by you.

Depending upon the size of the updates, it may take some time for the downloads to finish. Do not close the application window or disconnect from the internet while the files are downloading.

9.When the download is complete, open the folder and you will see all the files required to install Windows update on your computer.

10.To install these updates, double click each file and Windows will install the updates automatically. You will have to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Now you can burn all the files in a CD or a DVD and install the updates on any computer.

MS Office

Microsoft Office: See It From A Different Angle

Do you draw and use shapes in the MS Office Suite programs?

I just love those little AutoShapes for highlighting the really important stuff. But... have you ever wished that you could use it at a slightly different angle? You know, a little something in your document, spreadsheet, presentation or message that isn't plain old horizontal or vertical? Something that really catches the eye.

Well, if you've ever wished for that extra bit of control over your shapes then check out Worldstart today!

Tip of the Day

Note: Video may contain additional information not found in the written text.

Single Click to Open

For quite some time, the norm has been for computer users to double click every time they need to open something on their computer. Whether it be computer files, music files, documents, etc. For example, if you would like to listen to a music file on your PC, you double click on it to run the music, right? But, in all actuality, we can make life easier by assigning a single click pattern to our Windows system.

By single click, I mean really single clicking on items to open them, so in the end, we will save thousands of clicks from now on. We will be able to open any file with a single click of the mouse. This can save us time and it makes our clicking more productive and enjoyable. It also will help your mouse to live longer as a result of less clicking.

Learn how to do it here!

The one thing you notice as soon as you become part of the knitting and crocheting community is that there is always a group or organization that are using their skills to give back to the rest of the world. Whether it is baby blankets or stuffed animals for kids, or like this site patterns for soldiers – the community is brimming over with people who want to use their skills to help others in need.

Holy Toledo! These babies have been flyin' off our shelves! Better grab yours, before they're gone!

What!?!!

A Flashlight That Doesn't Use Batteries?!?!

Never Replace A Bulb Either!?!

Squeeze Light

This Durable Flashlight Is Gonna Save You Big Bucks!!

This Is The Last Flashlight You'll Ever Need To Buy!!

Read On...

Think about it...when do we typically use flashlights? Emergency situations. Usually you never know when you're gonna need use your flashlight next.

So what ALWAYS seems to happen? We store 'em away until we need 'em! Think about it, how many times have you went to get your flashlight, turned it on - and NOTHING?!?!

What's even worse is when you haven't used it in SO LONG that the batteries have leaked and ruined the flashlight!

What if I told you that there was a flashlight that didn't require batteries??

Well, I found just that - An LED Squeeze Flashlight THAT DOESN'T NEED BATTERIES!!

How it works is simple:

When you need light, just unlock the handle, give it a couple of squeezes and voila...you've got light from 3 blindin' bright LED bulbs!! Yowza!

The 3 bright LEDs will stay lit for hours!

This uses a squeezable hand charger...no batteries are required! No more paying for replacement batteries or extra batteries that just sit around and go bad. Just think about how many batteries have we all thrown away cuz they just went past the expiration date?

Since this Squeeze Light uses LED bulbs, that means they're bright...waaaay brighter than an old incandescent bulb flashlight! Plus, they last for an incredibly long time...much longer than the standard bulbs!

So you'll save money (and aggravation) by not having to replace bulbs or batteries!

This is an absolute must-have for cars, boats, offices...and it's small enough to keep in the glove box or purse.

Just think...these are environmentally friendly and inexpensive!

We've got these on special so you can pick up a few of these and keep 'em where you need 'em. Grab these right now for just $7.97 and U.S. Shipping is FREE!!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/5049

PS - Keep one in each car and even in a couple of rooms in the house! At this price they're cheaper than buying batteries!

PPS - The price will increase to $14.97 tonight at 11:59pm, CST!
