Google Search: A Different Perspective
In the digital universe, Easter eggs are hidden messages or tricky devices–often humorous–that are generally revealed by a series of keystrokes, or by typing a particular word or phrase. These cryptic novelties can be found in games or other applications, but their creation is also a frequent diversion for the developers at Google. Here’s a couple that will take your browser window in new directions. Enjoy. On the computer, in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or on an iPhone (so I’m told), or on at least some Android devices, go to http://www.google.com. Once there, type either the word tilt, or the word askew, and tap the Enter key or the search button.
Or, if searching from that angle doesn’t appeal to you, try typing the phrase, do a barrel roll for a different spin on Google search.

Gym-Pact The beginning of a new year sees a lot of us signing up for gym memberships, fully convinced that we will go everyday without fail and have that 6 pack in a matter of months. And then.. life happens. Work, school, kids – and before you know it you’re feeling guilty for not following up on your new year’s resolution. Gym-Pact is a new iOS app that might help you keep this little promise to yourself. The idea of this app is very simple: if you go to the gym you will be rewarded with cash, and if you skip the workout, you will be docked some cash. No, Seriously, I am not kidding – you will get paid for working out! You start by visiting the website, signing up, and setting your stakes: how many times do you aim to go to the gym? How much money are you willing to stake that you will go regularly? Once you’re done with that, you must install the iOS app on your iPhone and select your gym. Gym-Pact has a huge database of over 40,000 gyms in America alone. You can even add a gym that’s not on the list, and as long as it’s not a home gym or an office gym, they will approve it and add it to the list. But how do they know that you have gone to the gym? Well, every time you are at the gym you will have to hit the “check in” button to inform Gym-Pact that you are indeed on location at your gym. Gym-Pact then will confirm via GPS whether you are really there or not.

I don’t know about you, but for me January is usually a tight month financially. Whether I’ve overspent on Christmas presents for my family, an unexpected bill comes up (this year it was a trip to the vet for an ear infection for my dog, Gypsy), or I’ve forgotten something with all the hectic rushing about for New Years and my families’ multitude of birthdays. Either way, even if you’re on top of things the beginning of the year is always a good time to do a checkup on your finances. I started looking around the web for ways to make my finances easier to manage and I stumbled across Bill Shrink – a site that looks at what you’re spending for services, what you’re saving, and then correlates that information with all the thousands of deals and services on the web and tries to find you a better deal or better way to save – and they do it all for free! I would recommend that you start in the section What is Bill Shrink and then check out their FAQ for any other questions you might have. These sections explain in full how the site works and what it is trying to provide you. On the main page you’ll find the sections Wireless Service, Television Service (Beta), Credit Cards, Savings and CDs, and Gas Stations. So you can see where they are going to try and save you money. Even if you don’t need a finance makeover – everyone can use the Gas Station section to find good prices on fuel for your car. Each section works by you filling out the form with the required information and then the site will take your data and find you the best way to save money whether it is on gas for your card, a better credit card or wireless plan, or actually saving money with a savings account or CD. At some point they will ask you to register or provide your e-mail address so that they can save your information for you. You can register either when you fill out the form or you can cut out the middle man and just click the Login link at the top of the page, and then click Need an Account? Sign up Here link on the login page. Registration allows you to save your information so you don’t have to re-enter it every visit, to be the first to know when there are new ways to save money, and to be kept up to date if the services you’ve been recommend are improved or changed. Often times, we want to focus on a certain aspect of a photo, and need to crop it out, change it's size and make sure it's clear. With Serif X2, cropping is a piece of cake.
