Quick Tip

Windows 8: Quick & Easy Screenshots

Windows 8 includes a fantastic feature to take screenshots (images of what’s on your screen) quickly and easily. Traditionally, to take a screenshot in Windows 7 and below, you would need to hit the PrtScn key, then open a photo program like Paint or Photoshop, and go to Edit > Paste (or Ctrl + V) and save the image.

On Windows 8, you can simply hold down the Windows key (the windows icon on the keyboard next to the Ctrl key) and hit PrtScn, and a screenshot will be saved to your My PicturesScreenshots folder as a PNG format image. This popular image format can be read by windows and by most photo software.

So next time you want to show somebody something in Windows 8, or save an error or warning that comes up on the screen, hit the Windows Key + PrtScn key and you’ll have a screenshot saved for you.

Over the years we've tested a lot of wireless headphones, and all I can say is that these are so VASTLY superior to ANY others we've tried, that it isn't even close! If you think I'm excited about these, you're absolutely right! Let me tell you why...

Imagine sitting out back relaxing on your patio in a lawn chair, listening to your favorite songs playing on the stereo that's inside the house!

You can even get up and walk around and still be listening to your music - all in total comfort and style!

Even better - you can use these with your TV too! Listen to your favorite movie or program, AS LOUD AS YOU WANT - without disturbing a sing person in your home!

Oh - these aren't your average wireless headphones either!

They are a 4-in-1 Wireless Headphone kind of deal! Just check out all these babies can do...

Wireless Headphones (works with any MP3 player, iPod, stereo, even most TVs!!)

Wireless FM Radio (built into the headphones)

Wireless Internet Chat Microphone (the base has a mic built in!!!)

Listen In Private While You Listen In Comfort!

These have so many uses!
Just imagine...

Watching and listening to the TV - without waking or disturbing your spouse EVER AGAIN!! You'll never hear the words, "Honey, can you turn that down?" EVER AGAIN!

You could be mowing the lawn while listening to your favorite FM radio station...maybe catching the ball game!

If you get restless late at night and can't sleep and want to jump on the computer and listen to some videos on the Internet or even watch problem!

Heck, going to the fridge to grab a snack and you don't even need to take off your headphones! Ahhh...the freedom to roam without being tied down to the computer or stereo by a cord!

These wireless headphones will give you incredible sound all without disturbing anyone around you!

Wireless HeadphonesWhen you take these out of the box you're gonna be amazed! They LOOK & FEEL so rich!

The earpieces have a soft, cushy feel to them. Even the band that rests on the top of your head is covered by the same soft, luxurious, padded covering!

Before I even plugged them in, I had to try them on to see how they felt - boy these are SO incredibly comfortable! And they're incredibly lightweight to top it off - I couldn't believe it! You can walk around with these on all day and never get tired of them!

And as far as the sound goes, these headphones sound IMPECCIBLY CRYSTAL CLEAR!!

When you turn these on, oh my're NOT gonna believe what you hear!

They sound as rich as they feel! And the volume - let's just say that you can really crank these up if you want to conveiniently on the earcup. No tinny, thin sound here! These have a strong, robust sound that just surrounds you in music and quality sound!

Computers 101

Subir from India writes:

Could you please suggest me any free application so I can convert any Word or Excel file to PDF format?

Standard text documents or spreadsheets, such as those created in Microsoft Word or Excel, aren’t always the best formats to use, especially if you don’t want files to be edited by other users or you want a file only for display purposes. While the Adobe Acrobat Reader program for viewing PDF files is free, unfortunately the Writer counterpart for making your own PDF’s is not.

But not to worry, you don’t actually have to lay down any cash to convert files over to PDF format. In fact, you don’t even need to download and install a separate program, as there are completely free conversion tools available online that are used directly through your Web browser.

To get started converting a document, head over to a PDF conversion website such as or Click the “Choose File” button (or the equivalent option for whichever online tool you are using) near the top of the window.

Use the folder navigation panel at the left side of the window to access the folder containing your Word or Excel document. Click the name of the document you want to convert and then select “Open.”

Selecting A Word File

Type the email address where you want a link to the converted PDF file to be sent into the text box at the center of the window. Leave the “Attach Files to Email” box blank if you just want a link sent, or instead click the box if you want the converted document to be sent to you directly. While this is a more convenient option, it may cause problems as your email client’s spam filter will likely prevent the message from getting through. Click the “Convert Your File” button to begin the conversion process.

Converting The File

Some PDF conversion sites also require you to verify that you aren’t actually a software program trying to automatically click links on the page. Simply type the listed phrase into the text box before clicking the “Convert” button.

Using A Captcha Image

Close the tab and then navigate to your email program and wait for the email message to be sent, which can take up to 10 minutes, depending on how large your Word or Excel document was before being converted. Open the new email message and then click the provided link.

Using The Email Link

Click the text link on the new web page to download a zip archive folder containing your newly converted PDF file. PDF conversion sites only keep your converted file for a limited amount of time to save space, so you may need to start the process over if you don’t get to the email containing the link within 24 hours.

Downloading The File

Open the folder where your downloaded files are saved. Right-click the zip file and choose “Extract All” to extract your PDF file from the zip archive.

Extracting The ZIP Archive

Double-click your new file as normal to open the converted PDF document.

Tablet Shopping: Accessories Worth Buying

Have you purchased a tablet or are you looking to buy one this holiday season? From the widely popular Apple iPad to the Amazon Kindle to the dozens of Android tablets, it’s expected to be one of the most popular gifts under the tree this year. What accessories are worth buying and which should you avoid?

Cases: A case is a good investment, since most of these tablets include glass and either aluminum or plastic backs, which can easily scratch. Since the tablet is often moved around and used in your hand, find a case with a comfortable feel, along with a stand or a holder for other items you already carry. Avoid cases that weigh too much, though, as the combined weight of the tablet and case can get bothersome for your wrist.

From The Archives

Winston from Canada asks:
I lost my icon in bottom right hand corner that shows I’m connected to the Internet. How do I get it back?

Good question, Winston!

Sometimes your Internet connectivity icon (located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen) can seem to disappear as if by magic. This is annoying when you want to find out information about your Internet connection like speed, packets sent and received or even just which provider you are connected too.

It’s solved quite simply, though. It’s different depending on which version of Windows you are currently running.

101 DIY Handmade Gifts For Men

My dad is ridiculously hard to shop for during the holiday season and his birthday. What do you get the man who claims to have everything, and has nothing he needs?  Well, I’ve turned to creating him things for each gift-giving holiday instead. This year, he’s getting a hat with ear flaps that I hand-knit, so he can alternate it with the one he “borrows” from my sister.

Before deciding to knit my dad a hat, I searched the web for handy gift guides to see if there was anything that would resonate. When I found this list of DIY (do-it-yourself) projects geared towards gift-giving for men, I went ahead and checked out a few of the projects. Once I did, I knew I had to share it with you.

Navigation is easy! Scroll down the page and pick a DIY project, picking one that either you’d like to make or someone you know would really like to receive. Then, you’ll be whisked away to the site where that guide is located. I like to right-click the links and open them in a new tab so I don’t accidentally lose the main list in my project perusal. With 101 options available, you are sure to find something for the man in your life that is hard to shop for.

Some of my favorite ideas were the Bay Rum Aftershave, not only because my dad might actually like that, but because it gives you the basic knowledge you need to extract essential oils that you can use for all sorts of projects.  Another project I liked for my dad was the Spice Rub Tins. You buy a tin (you could even use a mason jar, just sayin’) and then create a spice rub to put in it. Make a label, and then give it away! My dad loves to cook and often uses spice rubs, so this would work nicely! Maybe I’ll do it for his birthday in January.

These projects are just a tiny selection of what awaits you. You’ll find geeky options like laptop and kindle covers, outdoor options like grilling tools, camping stools, and so on. Go check it out and see if you can make something for your dad, brother, or husband this holiday season.

One More Big Deal

So You Just Got a New PC...

You Can't Just "Bring" Your Programs Or Files With You...

Windows XP, Vista, 7, and... EVEN WINDOWS 8!

Regular Transfer Cables Simply Can't Move Software...

No Hunting for Serial Keys, No Calling Tech Support...

LIGHTNING FAST Transfers with ONE Cable

And It's SO SIMPLE - Anyone Can Use It!

A Frightening Little Story...

Bill just got a new computer. He's SUPER excited, and can't wait to get it booted up. Slamming the door behind him and throwing his keys on the table, he rushes to the living room and starts to unbox that shiny new PC.

In walks his roommate, Fred. Fred knows a thing or two about computers and has no problem giving Bill advice - even though he can be quite smug about sharing his knowledge...

"Hey Fred! Check it out - I FINALLY got a new computer!" Bill says, eagerly awaiting approval from his nerdy roommate. "It's SO much better than my last one. I can't WAIT to get everything transferred over from that old piece of junk!"

"Well Bill" Fred says in a smug, all knowing voice, "that's a nice idea and all, but how are you going to transfer everything over just using that old transfer cable of yours?"

With his face starting to redden, Bill stammers "Wait...wha-what do you mean how? I've got that cable'll do the trick, right Fred? RIGHT?"

"Wrong!" Fred laughs. "That thing'll only transfer over your files. What about all of that expensive software you've invested so much money in, Bill? What about that? How do you think you'll get that transferred over?"

After letting Bill suffer in silence for a few moments, Fred introduces Bill to LAPLINK PC MOVER & ULTIMATE TRANSFER CABLE...

The most INGENIOUS program EVER created for PC users!

If you are planning on getting a new PC any time in the near future - LapLink PC Mover is AN ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE!

If you're buying a new computer with Windows 7 or 8 on it - it's even MORE important that you have this! Here's why!

It's ALL in The Cable - And The Transfers are LIGHTNING Fast!

**Pay Attention - This is IMPORTANT!**

The secret to the BLAZIN' speed is all in the included cable... And it makes a standard USB cable look SLOW!

It's fully compatible, AUTOMATIC, and 100% Plug & Play!  Just follow the prompts, plug it in and watch in awe as your transfers are completed with UNBELIEVABLE SPEED

Seriously - What would take a standard USB cable hours - this can do in minutes!  And what would take a USB cable minutes - this can do in seconds!

There's nothing to install - no drivers, no networking, nothing!  Just follow the simple prompts and get ready for your TRANSFERS TO POSITIVELY FLY!

Move EVERYTHING From Your Old PC to Your New One With EASE!

This awesome software lets you transfer everything - from your files to your software programs - onto your new computer. Most transfer cables only let you transfer over old files...but what about all of that IMPORTANT software that you've spent a FORTUNE on?

Moving files is simple - moving software is not. In fact, it used to be nearly impossible!

When most software is installed, you get components and pieces of the software scattered all over your hard drive .

Manually finding every part and putting it back on a new computer, placed where it should be and registered with Windows is almost impossible.

This is the ONLY program on the planet that allows you to do an upgrade from computer-to-computer while keeping ALL of your files and software!

Why? Because for some reason, Microsoft doesn't really support FULL upgrades. You can buy it, but once you install it - you're in for a nasty surprise! You'll be told that ALL of your software is now gone, and that it'll try to relocate it. It can't. Hope you backed everything up...

That's right - if you're upgrading (especially from Windows XP)... WINDOWS WILL LEAVE ALL YOUR SOFTWARE ON YOUR OLD PC!!!

GUESS WHAT? This is the ONLY software that solves that HORRIBLE problem!

Everything will be there when you've finished, and all of your data will be where it should be! LapLink PC Mover is like a MIRACLE!

The Test Results BLEW US AWAY!

Before we get started on a test run for you, just know this: all you need to know in order to successfully run this program to click your mouse!

Step 1: Install the software on both PC's

VERY EASY! Now just attach them with the INCLUDED Laplink cable. SIMPLE!

Ready to start making decisions? Go ahead! Exclude any files you don't want to keep. Wanna keep all of your data file folders? Leave the check marks in the little boxes, and they'll be kept!

Step 2: Let LapLink scan and find ALL of your old software!

When it's done, it'll give you a list with check boxes - leave checks in the ones you want to transfer over to your new PC. It's THAT EASY! Being able to select only the programs you want to transfer is AMAZING!

Oh, it even tells you when you already have the same software on your new PC (this program will not overwrite existing files, so you don't need to worry about data loss).

Step 3: Walk away and let LapLink do it's thing!

Once you've selected everything you want transferred over, your job is done! Now LapLink will AUTOMATICALLY transfer EVERYTHING you asked it to!

This obviously takes some time - especially if you're transferring large amounts of date. No big deal! The easiest solution is to let it run over night - when you get up in the morning, your new computer will be decked out and ready to go!

You won't be on that computer forever... and a deal like this doesn't come every day!

Plus, the software is upgradable to the newest version whenever you decide to make the switch! So, if you're planning on a new PC anytime in the future, grab this title now and you'll have it RIGHT when you need it!

If PC Answers Magazine says it's awesome...IT IS!

"Instead of messing around with program installation and data copying , PCmover is the ideal tool for anyone making the change to a new PC."
-PC Answers Magazine

Polar Bear Taking A Break

This lovely lady was wandering along the shores of Hudson Bay near Churchill, Canada when we spotted her from our Polar Rover. We quickly backed to her position - and she decided it was time to lay down and take a break! She would occasionally look around, check us out, lay her head down, look the other way, and so forth. So, we’d wait on the back of the Polar Rover (in -30F windchill) and ...(More)
