Years' Worth Of Memories Gone In Seconds - Protect Your Family Photos Imagine that you get up in the morning, start your computer and nothing happens. Your trusty laptop has died during the night and taken the past five years’ worth of your family photographs with it. Is your camera phone full of photos and videos? If you lose your phone or it gets stolen, they’re all gone. If you happened to have recorded video of baby’s first steps, you are out of luck. Take a little time and back up your photos and videos. Depending on how many photos you have, you can buy a flash drive or external hard drive. You can also choose cloud storage, where a company stores your information on a server at another location. You can find out more about how it works here. Most cell phone manufacturers have instructions for transferring photos and videos in the customer support section of their websites. Once you have backed up your photos, be extra-careful with the drive you’ve stored the photos on. Consider putting it in a fire safe with the rest of your important documents or sticking it in a safe deposit box. If you want to be extra-cautious, make a physical copy and store additional copies of your photos in a cloud. When it comes to your family photos and videos, better to be safe than sorry. Pat from Woodstock, VT writes: Most of the time when I click on the YouTube link, the video will not play and my computer freezes up. I then do ctrl, alt, del. I have double checked my internet options against my other computer and they are the same, but I am not having a problem with the other computer. What else can I check to correct this problem? When you watch dancing cats or catch Presidential debate highlights on YouTube, your web browser is actually playing the video by using an Adobe Flash plug-in. If YouTube clips are playing normally on one computer on your network but freezing up on another, the problem is most likely caused by an issue with your Flash plug-in or by the settings on the problem machine. To stop your computer from freezing you’ll need to go through a few short troubleshooting steps. The simplest potential problem to fix is actually handled directly through YouTube’s website itself. Navigate to any video that’s causing the freezing problem for you, but don’t click “Play” yet. Instead, right-click anywhere inside the video player to bring up a sub-menu of options, and then click “Settings.” Remove the check-mark from the box labeled “Enable Hardware Acceleration” and then click the “Close” button. By default this hardware acceleration option is turned on to provide a better viewing experience, but if your computer is running slowly or you have lower system specs it can cause glitches such as an operating system crash. After turning off the feature, click the “Play” button and see if the problem continues to occur. If the problem is still happening, right-click a YouTube video again and re-check the hardware acceleration feature to turn it back on. Next you’ll need to update your Flash software, as an out-of-date Flash player can cause your computer to freeze while watching YouTube clips. Navigate to the http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Adobe Flash player website and click the “Download Now” button (you may also want to un-check the “Yes, install McAfee Security Scan Plus” box if you don’t want any extra programs installed with your Flash update). Select the “Save File” button when a new window appears on the screen. Navigate to your “Downloads” folder (or whichever folder you use for saving files) and double-click the Adobe Flash installation file. Follow the prompts to install the latest version of Flash and then try to watch a YouTube video again. Normally updating Flash or turning off hardware acceleration should fix any freezing problems, but if the issue continues to occur you may have a problem with your browser’s add-ons. Depending on which add-ons and extensions you have installed, any of these third party programs could be conflicting with your Flash player or the YouTube website. To turn off these additional programs with Firefox, click the “Firefox” button at the top-left corner of the screen and navigate to the “Add-Ons” option. Open the “Extensions” tab and then look through the list of add-ons installed with the browser. Click “Disable” on each of the add-ons that aren’t specifically from either Adobe or YouTube. Restart your web browser and then play any YouTube video without any more freezing problems. ~Ty Arthur Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a question for us? Laptop Battery Needs Replacing: Help! Joseph W from United States writes: What if your computer keeps telling you that your battery is no longer useful and needs to be replaced? Mine does that every day, but I can’t afford a new one because they cost over a hundred dollars and there is no one in my family that even cares about it but me. Answer: Laptop batteries have a limited number of charge/discharge cycles (usually about 500>1000 before they can hold 50% of the charge) and after that the performance drops off quickly till they can no longer successfully charge. Replacing them is a must if you want to move away from the wall socket, but contacting the manufacturer for a replacement can cost hundreds of dollars. I’ve got some good news: you can probably find one for a lot cheaper... For the rest of this tip, click WorldStart!

Better Book Titles Today’s site is a humorous look at literature. How you may well ask? Well, the site picks popular books and then gives them better, funnier, (and possibly more appropriate) book titles. To navigate the page is easy. It is set up blog style, so you just scroll down the page. When you’ve reached the bottom of the page you can either click the “Full Library” link to go to the archive, or you can click “More” to keep navigating page by page. Personally, I prefer the Full Library view. You can see all the posts for each month, and as you scroll down you can just click on the cover you want to see bigger. It save you a lot of time slogging through pages of book titles you may not be interested in. There are a lot of classic titles and titles currently on the best sellers list. I will also warn you that this is not for children, and some of the titles have strong language in them. But for the most part I found them hilarious and still really wanted to share it with all of you. ~Amanda Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?Send it to Amanda at amanda@worldstart.com

BEFORE THEY FADE AWAY!! 2 Sizes to Choose From!! Ingenius New Scanners Makes It Simple - No Software Required! Scan Your Photos While You Watch TV... You Don't Even Need Your Computer! Amazing Video Demo Will Blow You Away! Jaw-Droppin Quality! Amazing Resolution And Color! And Just Imagine... You Can Share All Those Old Photos Via E-mail, CD, Or Even The Web!
WOW - These are so COOL! (Sorry for yelling, but WOW! - I'm REALLY excited about this one!) We've FINALLY found the perfect scanners for all those prints you have laying around the house! On top of that, we found a BIGGER model too - it supports PDF and documents or photos up to 8.5x14 inches! WOW! You know how it is - you probably have stacks, albums, and boxes just overflowing with photos from your old film camera. Wouldn't it be GREAT to free them from their paper prison and transfer them to digital before they fade away (or get ruined)? Wouldn't it be incredible to be able to EASILY scan those photos and have them at your fingertips in DIGITAL format? Think about it - you could print as many more as you'd like - no negative required! You could e-mail them, post them on the web, edit 'em, or burn to CD for safe keeping! WOW! How did we get along before digital? And, wouldn't it be fantastic if there was a high quality - but SUPER-EASY - way to do it? There is!!! Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking, "Arrgh - I hate scanning!" After all, up till now, scanning photos into your computer was a royal pain in the you-know-what! You had to buy an expensive scanner, install finicky drivers (and fight for hours to get them to work), and struggle with buggy software that only a digital imaging expert could understand! Oh, and then on top of it, it was time consuming and the scans sucked! YUK! No wonder no one likes to scan! However, that little nightmare ends RIGHT NOW! We just discovered the most amazing little photo scanners on the PLANET! How would you like a scanner SO easy to use that it actually made scanning in photos - dare I say it - fun? (Check out the video below for a demo) Then you GOTTA try this absolutely incredible photo scanner! Scan photos from wallet size to 4x6! (Note - normally the snapshots you got back from the lab when you had a roll of file developed were either 3x5 or 4x6 in size, so this scanner covers everything.) *INTRODUCING: THE BIGGER BROTHER* If you've got BIGGER photos - check out this larger scanner! It can scan up to 8.5x14 inch photos or documents! WOW! It comes in a "wand" format, but with a photo feeding dock that makes it a snap to use! In fact, instead of coming with an adapter for negatives... this one can scan documents in as PDFs... bigger photos, document and PDF support... now THAT'S an upgraded model! Whichever one you choose, you're gonna LOVE these scanners! Let's start with the drivers and software - WOW - there isn't any! In fact, you don't even need to plug this baby into a computer to use it - it includes an SD card that plugs into the back of the unit to store the images you scan! Think about that - you could sit in front of the TV and scan stacks of photos! How cool is that??? (You should really see the video demo below) What about actually using it?
You just feed a photo in the scanner, it scans it (takes about 6 seconds), and, well, that's it! The photo is automatically saved to the memory card as a standard JPEG! Once you're done scanning, just plug the scanner into your computer via the included USB cable and copy the photos to your hard drive! It's REALLY that simple! (NOTE - there are some other options too - you can plug the scanner into the computer and scan that way - just as easy. OR you can pop the SD card out of the scanner and use your computer's card reader to get the photos!) Don't take my word for it - check out this demo we put together and see for yourself! And just think - you don't need to install a SINGLE driver or piece of software to make it work! Now THAT'S the way to scan baby! Plus, the photos look absolutely AMAZING! The high resolution scans are fantastic quality and the color is just as eye-poppin' as the original photo! You'll be totally BLOWN AWAY when you see the images this produces! And it does everything automatically - just feed the photos in and the rest happens like magic! It's REALLY time to stop putting this off - those old photos are fading even as you read this! SAVE THEM NOW by scanning them into your computer. Turning them to digital literally stops the aging process and preserves them forever! Don't have your old photos... but still have the negatives? NO PROBLEM! The smaller model has a special adapter to let you scan the negatives too! WOW! And when you add in the fact that they're both 5-in-1 card readers too? Well, now that's just icing on top of the cake! Why let all those memories fade away when scanning them is so easy? Hey, plus your scanned images can't be scratched, ripped, wrinkled, or torn! There has never been a faster, simpler way to get your snapshots into your computer! Generations from now, your great, great, great, great, great, grand kids will be thanking you for preserving all those memories! Digital is forever! YEAH! Your price?
