Xbox One – Microsoft Changes Its Mind

After feeling the heat from consumers over the Xbox One, Microsoft has changed its mind about some key features of the gaming system. In a blog post titled “Your Feedback Matters,” the company dropped the requirement for an Internet connection  in order to play offline Xbox One games. Previously, players would have needed to check in at least once every 24 hours.

The company also dropped plans for limitations on the trade-in, lending, reselling, giving used games as gifts and game rental.

Don Mattrick, President of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business wrote: “I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.”  That seems like a polite way of saying, “Stop yelling at us! We changed it back!”

The move comes as a relief to game retailers and resellers who do a big business in trade-ins and used games, and also to gamers without consistent high-speed Internet connections.

Firefox Postpones Plans To Block 3rd Party Cookies Again

Mozilla has postponed plans to block 3rd party cookies by default in Firefox for the third time in three months. Mozilla’s CTO said that it was due to concerns about false positives and false negatives that would result in information you want being blocked and cookies you don’t want being permitted.

The company announced it was working with Standford University’s Center for Internet and Society to develop a “Cookie Clearinghouse.” The CCH would work at coming up with a list of site to be blocked by browsers.

Mozilla said their goal was to protect the privacy of the Firefox user while being transparent about the process. Many Internet advertisers expressed concern that default blocking of 3rd party cookies would cripple their businesses.

NASA Reveals Billion Pixel Panorama Of Mars

In addition to Tweeting his adventures on Mars back to Earth, NASA’s Curiosity Rover has been busy taking some pretty incredible shots of the red planet.  NASA has released a billion pixel panorama that stitches together nearly 900 images taken by the camera’s aboard Curiosity Rover.

The full-circle scene surrounds the site where Curiosity collected his first scoops of sand called Rocknest.

“It gives a sense of place and really shows off the cameras’ capabilities,” said Bob Deen of the Multi-Mission Image Processing Laboratory at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. “You can see the context and also zoom in to see very fine details.”

I  spent quite awhile zooming in on the rocks and looking for hidden signs of life. To paraphrase one my literary heroes Ray Bradbury, “There is life on Mars! It’s Us!”

The COOLEST Device For ANY Computer User!

The Power to Actually "Draw" On Your Computer is HERE!

Your Hands are the MOST PRECISE Tool You Have! Use 'Em!

YOU NEED A GRAPHICS TABLET!

Programmable Hotkeys, a 10x6.25" Working Area...

Even Advanced 2048 Pressure Sensitivity Levels!

It's Like a Pen and Canvas That Works for Your Computer

And Talk About a MONSTER Tablet!!

BONUS SOFTWARE: COREL PAINTER ESSENTIALS 4 INCLUDED!

Don't Spend $400 On A Similar Graphics Tablet...

WE'VE GOT ONE FOR UNDER $40!!!

You'll Wish You Had One YEARS Ago...

We're so excited to be able to get these to you! As far as computer technology goes, these tablets are one of the most world changing devices you'll EVER see!

And WOW!! Once you discover how these work, you'll be glad you got one.

First off, if you're not familiar with a graphics tablet, it's something that anyone doing any kind of photo editing or graphics work will absolutely LOVE!

Basically, it allows you to use a "pen" to "draw" on your screen!

See, this cool little tablet sits next to your keyboard like a mousepad, then you grab the included pen, and as you "draw" on the tablet, the mouse follows along on the monitor! The pen becomes the mouse for your graphics program!

(Don't worry, it doesn't replace your mouse, it just adds a new world of opportunity to your computer).

I mean, let's face it - drawing with a mouse is about as natural as driving with your teeth!! Grab a pen though - now THAT feels RIGHT - and THAT'S what this tablet does! It makes working on photos and graphics SOOOOO much easier than that old mouse of yours!

PLUS, this works with EVERY program out there since the pen functions as a "mouse"! If your program can use a mouse, then this will work!

If it SOUNDS like a great idea, just wait till you USE it!

What a surprise - tracing and brushing with a pen is easier than a mouse!! Honestly, once you try it, you'll never go back to editing photos using a mouse!! The difference is night and day!

You'll kick yourself for not getting one sooner! I know I did!

CHECK THIS OUT - PROGRAMMABLE HOTKEYS!

Along the side of the tablet, there's a bunch of hotkeys that you can setup to do whatever you want!

Maybe you'd like a faster way to swap between tools in your software - all you have to do is set one of those buttons and it'll do whatever you want!

Pressure Sensitive Pad Too! - If your program supports it (Photoshop does - and many others), then you'll really love this! You can generally set the pen to apply "more" as you press harder!

So, let's say you're brushing in an area in Photoshop - You can set this so the harder you press, the more "effect" you put down!

For example, if you're painting with black, a light touch would only put down a light grey, harder would be a middle grey, and full pressure would be black.

Of course, it's great for other graphics work as well. If you're a digital artist, this will feel like the most wonderful invention you've ever used!

And with the included Corel Painter Essentials 4, you'll have the PERFECT software to use with this!

When you're drawing with this, it actually feels like you're using a real brush or pencil! You've never felt more natural on your computer before.

Check out some of these features:

  • 10 x 6.25 Drawing Surface ~ huge size allows for better precision! Stylus pen that features the same functions as a mouse (stylus pen holder included). USB interface ~ USB cable is connected to the tablet. Soft-tip pen with 2048 levels of pressure for drawing programs such as Painter and Photoshop. Capturing signatures and drawing for inserting into documents.
  • Pen commands for control and editing functions.

Setup is EASY - Just plug it into your USB port! Sometimes people get concerned a tablet replaces their mouse, but that's not the case at all!

You can use your mouse AND tablet side-by-side!

Use your mouse for your typical tasks, but your tablet for those detailed jobs where you want to be exact.

Here's the thing - we all do at least a little photo editing anymore - it's the way digital photography works! This makes it sooo much more enjoyable - and sooo much easier! When I first stared using these tables, I was blown away at how simple it was to make a tight selections and tricky brush strokes compared to my mouse - and I never looked back!

Graphics tablets EASILY run into the hundreds of dollars!

This tablet is almost identical to a popular one we found online... but look how much they're charging for it!:

Why would you want to pay THAT much for ANY graphics tablet?!

We got an amazing deal on this - right now it's on sale for just $39.97 and US shipping is FREE! WOW!!! For that kind of money, you've just gotta try it! You'll be glad you did, that's for sure!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/8876

SUPPLY ALERT! The deal we got on these tablets is INSANE and we're not even sure our supplier is AWARE how low we got them for! Don't miss out because this deal DEFINITELY won't last forever. And if there's any left Saturday the price is going up to $46.97

James from WI writes:

How I import my MS Outlook contacts / addresses to Outlook.com?

Answer:

To import contacts from MS Outlook to Outlook.com, you have to start by exporting your contacts from Outlook. If you have Office 2007/2010 click here for directions to export a CSV (comma separated values) file. If you have Office 2013 click here for directions to export a CSV file. Once you’ve exported the file, save it to your desktop.

Open Outlook.com and click the down arrow next to Outlook in the upper left-hand corner. Choose People. In the People interface, click the down arrow next to Manage, then click Add people.

On the next screen click the option Import from file.

On the next screen make sure Microsoft Outlook (using CSV) is selected, then click the browse button to locate your file. Double-click the file you exported to your desktop. Now click Import contacts. Your contacts should now be imported into Outlook.com

On The Move

Betty writes: You talk about the Nook reading app for Kindle. What about a Kindle app for a Nook? Where do you get that from? And if I have two devices in my house (a tablet and a nook) and I want the app on both does it download the same thing on both?

Betty, getting the Kindle reading app for your Nook is super-simple. In May, Barnes & Noble added the Google Play store to the Nook. You can read about that here.

You’ll need a Nook tablet, not the e-reader. If you have a Nook tablet, it should have updated to include the Google Play store.  The Google Play Icon should be front and center on your tablet.

From The Archives

Frederick from Trinidad, West-Indies writes:

What is an administrator and what is its function or functions?

You should normally be able to make any change you want to your operating system – it is your computer after all, right?  Unfortunately, that’s not quite the case. The Windows operating systems actually have two different kinds of accounts: standard and administrator. The administrator account gives you the ability to view and modify critical system files, as well as to make changes that affect all other users on the computer. These two account types are in place to protect your computer so that people can’t easily ruin your system by deleting important files or installing virus-infected programs.

When attempting to open certain programs that let you change system settings, such as the registry editor or Microsoft management console, a prompt is first opened on the screen asking if you want to allow the change. If you aren’t currently logged into an administrator account, the Windows operating system won’t let you open the program or make any changes. You may run into this same problem while attempting to delete certain files or install programs.

Oleksiy Say. EXCEL ART.

Are you ready to check out some amazing artwork using a medium that is not only unconventional but also is surprising? Oleksiy Say creates amazing art using Microsoft Excel. That’s right a spreadsheet program. All I’ve ever used Excel for is boredom and frustration.

A Ukrainian artist from Kiev, Oleksiy Say uses Microsoft Excel to make art. The site is se tup blog style so all you have to do is scroll down the page to check everything out.

The first post explains the methods that Say uses to create his art, and provides a visual comparison between how people use Excel everyday for business and how he uses it for art. As you scroll down the page, you’ll encounter different pieces of artwork Say has made as well as looks at them in a gallery.

I really enjoy the whimsy in this kind of art. Some of my favorite pieces were the fireworks and the big white bunny.  Go see them for yourself today!

Lindy Point Sunset

This was photographed during my very first evening at Blackwater Falls State Park. We had come for the waterfalls, but when we discovered this view I just knew I had to try and shoot it! We got VERY lucky in that the air was really turbulent - thunderstorms had just come through and there were...(More)

Carter Shield's Cabin

I’ve been eyeballing this cabin for YEARS! Each time I’d drive by Carter Shield’s Cabin on the Cades Cove Loop Road (Smoky Mountains), I would kick around ideas for turning it into a cool photo. I shot photos of it in the Spring, Summer, and even Fall, but never quite got what I was going for. It finally occurred to me what was missing – the cabin always looked so “dead” in the photos. My first thought was... (More)

Tremont Rush

The Tremont area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of my favorite spots. The middle prong of Little River flows though it and zig zags its way through the boulders and drop offs, constantly coaxing photographers to its banks. This particular area of cascades has always held a certain fascination for me. Getting to it involves a nearly vertical climb down, but it’s well worth the effort (you know, if you don’t kill yourself in the process)... (More)
