Next Door

Next Door creates a social network for your neighborhood that you can use for free! The site helps you connect with your community in meaningful ways that help to build stronger relationships between neighbors.

Before you do anything, I suggest scrolling down and clicking the green See a Neighborhood in Action button. It shows you what a Next Door account looks like and how it functions for a neighborhood.

It is setup like a lot of popular social networks with navigation along the top and left of the page, and news feed in the center right. It shows a lot of different ways that you can use the social network – locating lost pets, reporting crimes, reporting disasters, getting recommendations for businesses, and so much more.

Back on the main page you can also scroll down to learn more about the service, or click About at the top of the page. The About page offers information on what the site is, how it functions, how you can use it, and who made it. You’ll also find a link to the FAQ where you can see the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Ready to take the plunge? Well, all you need to do is click is fill out the form on the main page!  It will then look to see if Next Door is available for your neighborhood, if there’s already a community, or if it isn’t available.

If it is available and you need to start the community, you’ll need to name the neighborhood, describe it, and then invite your neighbors to join. (That’s the options I was presented with.) Once you create or join your neighborhood, your feed will look like the sample one!

This seems like a great way to get to know your neighbors, and keep track of what is happening your community. Check it out today!
