Hi I am running a Compaq Presario SR5310F computer with Windows 7 and a 250 GB hard drive and I am looking to install the latest Microsoft Office. I have the older version of Office(2003) and must have 5000 updates for Office 2003. If I install the latest version of Office will the old version & this multitude of Windows updates disappear?
This is a really good question. In most situations when you install the latest version of a program, it automatically removes older versions of the program and its related updates. However, in the case of Office 2013 this isn’t true. According to this Microsoft support article , you must go to Control Panel and use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the old version of Microsoft Office and any updates. Otherwise, you’ll end up with both versions on your computer at the same time.
You may want to consider leaving both versions of Office installed for a bit. The new interface design in Office 2013 can be very confusing at first. If you do decide to remove everything before installing the new Office, make sure you back up all of your Outlook e-mails (instructions here ) or save your personal folder (instructions here ). Keep in mind, some plugins you’ve downloaded or add-ons may no longer work in the new version of Office, or may need to be reinstalled with the latest version of the program. Make sure to check these before upgrading.
