Open Word 2013 To A Blank Document

Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 by | Filed Under: MS Office Help, MS Word, Quick Tips

Not a fan of the start screen that shows up when open Word 2013?

Rather have word open to a blank document?  Here’s how to make it happen. Open a document in Word 2013. Click the File tab and then select options from menu at the left.

A window will open with General options.  At the bottom of the window, uncheck the box next to Show the start screen when application starts and choose OK. The next time you open Word, it will open to a blank document.

That’s a good tip. Opening screen requires extra steps every time. It would also help if there was an easy way to specify the margins, font type/size line spacing, etc of the blank screen that comes up…or, alternatively, how to kil the Word default.

  5. Frances Headley says:

This tip is incorrect. I have that box checked and it does nothing to bring up a blank document rather than the templates.

Not sure what the issue is Frances, it worked for me. Did you make sure to hit the OK button? You say the box is checked. It needs to be unchecked.

      • Frances Headley says:

Thanks the tip was unclear about whether the box should be checked or not checked. I made sure mine is unchecked, clicked ok and it now comes up with a blank document.

What a great tip! I just bought a new Dell with Windows 8.1 then installed Office. I found it a real pain to have to go through more steps than necessary. This tip also works in Excel if you want only a spread sheet

  7. Phyllis Hedding says:

Please tell us how to do this in the Libra Office.
