OpenOffice.org: Removing or Disabling Extensions

Posted By April On August 12, 2011 @ 1:19 PM In OpenOffice | No Comments

Over the course of time we tend to download extensions for our OpenOffice.org programs. We’ve already looked at some of them together, such as the Modern Impress Templates [1] and the Alternative Searching [2] extension for Writer’s Find & Replace feature.

We find these extensions thinking that they’ll be a great addition to our working day… and often they are… but what about the ones that you don’t use?

Do you have to keep them, or can you get rid of them – meaning that there’s one less thing OpenOffice.org will check for updates; one less thing running in the program and one more variable in the way your programs perform?

Or what if you installed one and then soon had problems with the program or one of its features? I know these are supposed to run smoothly, but we all know that when it comes to technology things don’t always go as planned.

With that in mind, you might be looking to disable an extension to see if it’s the culprit ruining your day…

We can easily remove these unwanted extensions from our OpenOffice.org program suite in a matter of seconds, so why not take a minute to learn how?

First thing to do is to access the Extension Manager. (Tools menu / Extension Manager choice)

ooo_remove_extensions

A list of your program extensions is presented, and when you choose one you can select to Disable it or Remove it.

Either way, you’ll need to confirm your choice.

Mere seconds later you’ve removed or disabled your extension – no fuss or muss!

If only everything could be that easy…
