Optimizing Week, Day 5 – Ebay and Amazon

Optimizing Week, Day 5 – Ebay and Amazon

Alright, let’s end this Optimizing Week with a bang! Ebay is arguably the most popular online shopping service on the Internet these days and today, I’ll be showing you how you can jazz up Ebay, along with another great shopping Web site: Amazon.com.

Ebay Companion – We’re kicking off today with the ultimate Ebay/Firefox add on! It’s called the Firefox Companion for Ebay and it’s absolutely awesome. What it does is add a sidebar to your Ebay, which lets you access all of your Ebay information from one central location. It gives you alerts whenever you need them as well. For instance, if you’ve been outbid or if you receive a bid on an item you’re selling. It also protects you against Ebay and PayPal phishing Web sites and much, much more! The link to install this extension can be found here.

Feedbackfox – All experienced Ebayers know that a seller’s feedback is important in deciding whether to buy from them or not. For example, if other Ebay users said a seller often ships late, you might not want to buy from them. So, to make viewing feedback even easier, this Firefox extension makes the seller feedback appear right alongside the item. It even has filters to let you view only negative or positive feedback comments. The link to install this extension can be found here.

Auction Enhancer – This Greasemonkey script adds two invaluable features to you Ebay. For one, the live countdown lets you see the seconds tick off in real time and second, in-place bidding lets you place your bid, without having to visit another page. This is one necessity for any Ebay user. The link to install this script can be found here.

Search Pics – Some product listings in the search results don’t show a picture. Instead, they just show a camera logo (like this: ). If you’d like to see the picture in the search results, this Greasemonkey script is especially for you. I really like this one and I’m sure you will too. The link to install this script can be found here.

ShortShip – Shipping costs can really hike up the cost of an item on Ebay. So much so that you might decide to buy the item from another seller. Now, Ebay shows you the shipping cost, but this Firefox extension gives you your grand total, making your job a whole lot easier. You can sort the items by total cost and find the seller who really has the cheapest cost for shipping the items to your doorstep. The link to install this extension can be found here.

You’re lucky today, because now I’m going to show you some optimization tips you can use for Amazon.com too. Here we go!

Book Burro – This add on adds a small panel to your Amazon, every time you are buying something from Amazon. The panel shows the price of the book, etc. on other leading book Web sites. What’s not to like about this extension? I mean, it’s useful in every way! You can even add other bookstores and popular libraries to your searches. The link to install this extension can be found here.

Right Click Search – This add on is just like YouTube IT, which we talked about on Monday. Just highlight a word or phrase, select Search on Amazon and off you go! The link to install this extension can be found here.

Mini Shop – This extension allows you to shop Amazon.com right from the sidebar. It’s a handy tool to have, especially if you do a lot of shopping with Amazon. The link to install this extension can be found right here.

I hope you enjoyed this entire week of optimization tips! Now, go out and find some tweaks for your other favorite Web sites. Thanks for tuning in!
