Outlook 2013 Coming To Windows RT

Microsoft announced that Outlook 2013 will be available on Windows RT tablets as part of the Windows 8.1 update.  If you own a Microsoft Surface or any Windows RT tablet, you’ll soon be able to use Outlook’s e-mail and calendar functions.

Outlook joins Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote as a Windows RT application. Microsoft pointed out that, according to research, 61% of people shopping for tablets considered Microsoft Office to be the single most important software feature.

This could be a boost for Windows RT tablets, since the lack of Outlook has caused many customers to choose other tablets or a more traditional PC. However, the Outlook RT app does not have all the functions of Outlook 2013 for PCs.

Microsoft is promising new features that make it quicker to respond to e-mail and check your calendar without having to switch between tabs.

The company is also making some changes it hopes will attract more business customers for the Surface. On the Microsoft Surface Blog the company highlighted new business features and enhancements also on the way with the Windows 8.1 update. They promised better access to corporate networks and better VPN options and strong mobile device management capabilities.

According to the post, “This will let the IT department manage some settings, give certificates, and protect data, even if it’s my personal system if I want to let them do that to get access to work resources.”

The Windows 8.1 update is expected later this year.
