One of the convenient features of using Outlook.com was that both Facebook and Google chat were integrated into service along with Skype, making it easy to communicate with friends while using either Outlook.com mail or the Microsoft Office Online Apps.
Microsoft notified users of Outlook.com that the services would be discontinued in the next few weeks. They blamed the decision to drop Google on that company’s decision to discontinue the chat protocol for Google Talk in favor of Google Hangouts.
No explanation was give for discontinuing support of Facebook chat. Microsoft assured users that this would not affect the connection to Facebook or Google accounts on their people pages and their contacts will stay intact.
They are encouraging users to try Skype as an alternative.
