I’m curious about something. Are “Outlook.com”, the e-mail service and “Microsoft Outlook”, the e-mail management system software connected in any way? Thanks.
Hello Terry. The answer is really yes and no. While they operate independently of each other, Outlook.com and Microsoft Outlook are both products offered by Microsoft. You can sync contacts and use both to access your Microsoft SkyDrive account.
For those not familiar with the differences between the products, Outlook.com is a free web-based e-mail service that you access with a web browser. If you previously had a Hotmail, Live.com or MSN e-mail address, it has been converted to Outlook.com.
Outlook is a program that you purchase and install on your computer. Outlook is what’s called an e-mail client. It downloads e-mail messages from any e-mail service you choose to your computer. You can also use it to compose and send messages, plus it has e-mail management features not offered in Outlook.com.
You can choose to use them in conjunction with each other, but you don’t have to.
