Photographer Dietmar Eckell traveled the world looking for airplane crashes with existing wreckage that could be photographed with the caveat that the plane’s story had a happy ending. All fifteen of the wreckages that Eckell photographed do indeed have positive endings – no deaths and the passengers were all rescued from the remote locations of the crashes.
Dispersed throughout the article about Eckell’s Happy End project, you’ll find the photographs he shot. What I love about photographs from abandoned places, or in this case wreckage, is that nature slowly creeps in and reclaims the area. My favorite photos are the ones where that has happened, and there is greenery taking over like in the second photograph on the page.
