There’s definitely not a shortage of search engines these days and it goes without saying that search technology has gone way past what we expected even five years ago. Still, most of us face the problem of not getting the exact answers we need. For example, you would have no trouble finding information on the history of the New York Knicks, but if you were searching for something about what caused the Great Depression, you would probably have to go through a few pages before you could summarize the facts and get an answer. So, in spite of search technology leaping forward like a panther, effective results are still an issue. Getting good results depends a lot on the keywords you enter in the search box. Luckily, there’s a search engine that can help you with that and make your searching experience a whole lot easier. Let’s check it out, shall we?!

Welcome to! First of all, I want to make it clear that Powerset gets its content and facts from Wikipedia. So, you’re probably wondering why you need Powerset when Wikipedia already has a search function, am I right? Well, the difference with Powerset is you can search with simple words and you don’t have to worry too much about the keywords you’re going to enter. Let’s look at a couple examples!

When I search for “Jon Stewart,” it brings up a page that has basic information about him, as well as, a host of links with additional information at the bottom.

Essentially, in one page, I have tons of information related to Jon Stewart. In the middle of the page, you will also see a section labeled Factz, which contains keywords of all kinds. In the example above, you can see keywords like fun, Academy Awards, wrote it, etc. Now, when you click on any of those keywords, information pertaining to that specific keyword is displayed next to it. How cool is that?!

So, what happens when you click on one of the additional links at the bottom of the page? Well, all of the information is pulled from Wikipedia, but the page doesn’t look anything like it. The best part about the page is the navigation panel in the top right corner. It gives you a synopsis of the whole article, without even clicking on anything. All you have to do is look at the panel!

Also, by using the panel, you can toggle between viewing the outline or the Factz. As you go down the page, the panel keeps floating along. So, all in all, the search results combined with the extra links and the Factz provide a one stop shop for information!

Now, my previous search was rather specific, so let’s take a look at a new search. I put in “What was banned by the FDA?” As random as that search query is, Powerset gave me various links, as well as, Factz about various substances banned by the FDA. That just goes to show again that the search query you enter in does not have to be absolutely perfect. You’ll still get great results. Give Powerset a try for yourself today!
