How do I print only part of an email or other text?
A:
From time to time, you’d like to print out an email you’ve received. The problem is that you don’t want to print out the whole kit and caboodle—the email header, the chit chat or the signature. Can you print out just a section of an email? Sure! Here’s a quick solution that will save you paper and ink.
Highlight the section of the email you’d like to print. Right click Copy.

Now your text is on your Windows clipboard.
Open a temporary blank Word document. Right-click and select Paste.

Your text appears.

Now simply print out the text and you’re done!

Thanks for this tip. I have often lamented the paper that I have “wasted” when printing out an e-mail or such.
Another way that works most of the time, is to highlight what you want, right click, select PRINT. When the print dialog box comes up, in the “Print Range” box, place a check mark in the box that says “SELECTION”.
That will print out just what was highlighted.
Why go through all that? (re opening a word doc. etc) Why not just select your portion, keyboard Ctrl+ P, the print dialogue comes up, choose selection, and then print.
My printer provides for highlighting the section I want to print.
Hi,
There is an easy method better thant the above tip.
Highlight the texts that you want to print, then click print from the File menu, then the print dialog box will appear. so here under the page range section, we need to choose “selection” option, then click print.
that’s all. you have printed part of your email.
Thank You.

This tip is perfect if you need to save or edit the pasted text. If, however, you only need to print (not save or edit) a specific section of an email, try this faster method:
Select (highlight) the text you wish to print as in the first step of this tip. While pointing to the selected text, right-click the mouse to open the shortcut menu and click ‘Print Preview…’ (not ‘Print’). On the following screen the toolbar at the top contains 3 windows with drop-down buttons. Find the ‘As laid out on screen’ option, click the drop-down button, and click ‘As selected on screen’ and you will see only the selected portion of text, ready to print.
Thank you for this tip. I have tried so many times to accomplish this task but never figured it out.
I really found this tip useful, especially after reading the “response tip” from “Bill”, now I got this to work great and I am using Internet Explorer, my husband uses Firefox, and he couldn’t get it to show those 3 windows with drop-down buttons, did manage to get to show Print Preview, but when he got to the printer screen, the “as selected on screen” those options are greyed out. Any help with this is appreciated, thank you.
Sorry Bill, but your suggestion doesn’t work with my W7 system. Here’s what does work.
Highlight text>File>Print>Selection>OK. Very simple.
Thanks Allan, I have been using That method for years, would not try any other.
