Jane Asks: In Windows Media Player, is it possible to print a playlist? If so, how?

A: You would think it would be easy to print a simple playlist from Windows Media Player. Unfortunately, it isn’t. It’s a shame you have to go so out of your way to do something that should be easy, but as with many things, it takes more work and time than it should. Even though Windows Media Player has no feature that allows you to print playlists this article will help you get it done using a great, free program called MediaMonkey.

Download MediaMonkey and save it to your computer. The installation is pretty much the same as any other program, but here’s the runthrough anyways:

When it is finished downloading, click on the installation link. Choose the language and click OK.

Click Next in the Welcome to the Media Monkey Setup Wizard window. Accept the agreement and click Next.

Select the destination folder. One is supplied for you so you can just leave this alone.

Select the Start Menu folder and click Next.
On the additional tasks screen you have an option to create a desktop icon, quick launch icon and enable full skinning. Check the options you want and click Next.

Select the file types you would like associated with MediaMonkey and click Next and then Install. When finished make sure Launch MediaMonkey is checked and click Finish.

You will get a message “Since this is the first time you’ve run MediaMonkey, your drives will be scanned for audio files.” Click OK.

Select Folders to add to the Library and click Ok. Your audio files will now be imported into MediaMonkey.
Find your playlist on the left side of the screen and double-click on it to open. You will notice the playlist will open up on the right side of the screen.

Click File and Create Reports and choose the type of report you want to generate. You have the options of either HTML playlists, XML playlists, CSV or Microsoft Excel files playlist.

Choose the playlist that is best for you by clicking on it. In the dialog box that opens, choose a name for your playlist and the location and click Save. You will see exporting and a progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

Open your playlist depending upon how you saved it. For example, I chose to export my playlist to an Excel document. Open Excel and open the playlist and from there you can print. Of course, you can make any changes you want before you print the playlist.
