I’m sure many of you are familiar with Pandora the music recommender that helps you discover new music based on the genres, artists, and albums you already enjoy! Well Project Alexandria is like that, but for books!
You get started by typing the title or title author of a book you liked, and Project Alexandria will help you find more books to read based on your submission.
If you want to search for an author, you need to input that information in a certain format – title:author. For example, I’m currently reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, if I wanted to find more books by Janet Evanovich I need to put that in the search field as One for the Money:Janet Evanovich. When I type that in it will make a web on the right portion of the screen that maps similar books.
If you need help discerning how to do this, scroll down the bottom of the page and click the How To link. It will popup a screen that illustrates how this all works. I found it very helpful.
Going back to my example my map includes the other books in the Stephanie Plum series and books by other authors like Jacqueline Winspear, Alafair Burke, and Lisa Lutz to name a few. I also noticed if you start with one in the middle of the series the map will be completely compiled of the other books in that series, but if you keep clicking and opening the map up you’ll eventually get new titles.
This is an interesting way to find new books to read! Go check it out today!
