Remember all the hassle it was to make a file Read-only in MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint versions prior to 2007?
You had to save and close the file, locate it through Windows, right-click on it and then you could finally select the Read-only checkbox.
Whew! That’s a lot of steps and a bit of a pain.
Well, if you’re using a 2007 version then today you’re in luck.
In the 2007 version of these programs read-only is just a couple of clicks away.
Once you’re done editing the file and are ready to make it read-only simply go to the Office Button, Prepare choice.
Among the options that the Prepare section gives there’s one that’s “Mark as Final“.
Instantly the document is read-only and all the editing features of the Ribbon are disabled.
Truly, the document in this condition is “final”.
You’ll know that a document is marked as final when you see the Mark as Final icon in the Status Bar.
Need more editing? Change your mind?
All you have to do is to repeat the process used previously to mark it as final and you’ll be back into the editing business!
Now that’s truly the easy way to make a file read-only!
