Glen wrote us with a warning about a scam call:
“I just had a phone call from an outfit that claims to be offering a complete review and clean up of my computer. The caller had a “warm” voice and very agreeable to all I had to say. The “service” would be free and, I suspect, he would get control of the computer. In some fashion, he would convince you that he found some very damaging items on the computer and, thus, manage to convince you that you need to contract with his service, etc, etc… I am sending this to everyone for whom I have an email address in order to alert as many people as possible to this scam.”
Good move, Glen! First, good job spotting that scam! Anytime anyone calls you up with a free offer that involves them accessing your PC, you should be suspicious. Always be on the lookout for people who want to fix problems you don’t have.
Secondly, it’s good of you to warn your friends about this scam. You’d be surprised how many people fall for these tricks. Scammers will sometimes get into your PC, purposely lock it up. Then you’ll be forced to pay them to fix the issue.
