File this one in the “Wow, I didn’t know I could do that!” category, but did you know that you can re-name multiple files at once?
It’s possible! So next time you have a bunch of files, folders, or pictures with names like DSC_5678 and want to rename them in a more uniform way, do this:
Highlight all the files/folder in question…

Right-click, choose Rename and call it something that best describes them. For example, I had a bunch of pictures of a guitar, so I just renamed it “Guitar”.
Voila! A uniform naming convention!

Great tip
excellent tip
super easy and sweet!
Wow! What a great tip. That’s really coming in handy since I am sorting family pictures (Over 6k o them) by the name of the person in them. Now I don’t have to remember what number I’m up to.
I can also sort them by the family function such as “so and so’s” wedding. I’m lovin’ it.
What a great tip – thanks

Sweet!
“Brilliant: Wow, I didn’t know I could do that!”
Great to rename all those files the camera named with the last name you used. Note the file that the cursor is on when rename is selected will be the 1st on the list.
Thanks!! That’s one tip I’ll use.
Wonderful for revising the names of picture files! Thank you!

I love that you can still do this. I remember “back in the day” doing this with DOS at a command prompt. Excellent post!
