Resolving Dual User Email Problems in AOL

Sunday, June 9th, 2013 by | Filed Under: E-Mail Help, Uncategorized

Richard from Waukegan, IL writes:

The wife and I share a computer with AOL as our browser. We have Windows 7 as our Operating System. We have issue 9.7 of AOL. We use different user names and passwords. When she goes on line, everything works fine. When I go on line, about two weeks ago I had no subject on my e-mail, just an icon. If I placed my cursor on a line and double clicked it, the e-mail would open up and I could read it. The only other thing I could do with the e-mail is delete it. I can’t save it or forward it or reply to it. Just read it and delete it. If I went to send a new e-mail, I could type my message and send it. A couple days ago, my favorite places disappeared. All I have is a big blank box. If I go to a Web Site and click on the heart to send it to my favorite places, nothing happens. I can’t go to AOL Tech Support because we are not paying for the service. We are using AOL as a freebie. I hope you can help with my problem.

Unable to Reply to Email in AOL

Experiencing such is really a pain bringer. You may not be able to reply to email on AOL Mail for several reasons. But whatever those reasons are, you need not be worried as there are alternatives. After trying the first solution, check to see if you can reply to email on AOL Mail. If you are still unable to reply to email on AOL Mail, continue using the suggested solutions until the problem is fixed.

What you need to know

Before anything else, you need to know the version of the Microsoft Windows operating system installed on your computer. The simplest way to find this information is by following the steps below.

  • Click Start
  • Click Run or if you see “Start Search” field click in it.
  • Type winver and press Enter.

This will pull up a new About Windows window giving you the version of Microsoft Windows, the build info, and service pack information if any service pack is installed as shown below.

If you do not want to reboot, you may seek help to online articles. There are tons to help you.

Now that you have found out the version of your OS, do the following:

  • Clear cookies, cache, history, and footprints.

  • If you are using AOL 8 ad 9, try this:
    • Sign on and select Settings from the toolbar.
    • Version 9.0 users should select the By Category tab and click the Internet [Web] Options link, while for Version 8.0 and below click Internet Properties (WWW).
    • Click Settings.
    • Note: Windows Vista will see more than one Settings button. Click the button in the Browsing history section.
    • Click View Files. Your list of cookies (plus your other temporary internet files) will be displayed.
    • If you wish to delete any of the cookies or files, right-click on them and choose Delete.

For other browser used, check the links below for more details.

  • Sign out and then sign back in to AOL Mail

When you visit a website, temporary Internet files and cookies are stored on your computer to record your return visit. Sometimes, deleting these temporary Internet files and cookies, as well as your browsing history, can fix the issue that you’re experiencing.

Note: Once you clear your cookies, cache, history, and footprints, you may lose the following:

  • AOL Radio presets
  • Websites you have visited
  • Your shopping cart
  • Your customized pages

The instructions to clear your cache, cookies, and footprints will differ depending on the browser you use. Please click the appropriate link from the ones given below for instructions to clear your cookies, cache, history, and footprints.

  • Internet Explorer 8.0
  • Internet Explorer 7.0
  • Internet Explorer 6.0
  • Firefox 3.5
  • Firefox 3.0
  • Netscape Navigator
  • Safari
  • AOL 9.0 and higher
  • AOL 8.0 and lower versions
  • AOL software for Mac
  • AOL Desktop

Sign out and then sign back in to AOL Mail

Sometimes, the best solution is also the easiest. If you’re having trouble accessing your mail, sign out of your account, wait a few minutes, and then sign back in. This will often do the trick.
