Carol from MS asks:
I have Windows XP Home Edition. Somewhere along the line I’ve lost or deleted “Search” in my Start Menu. How can I retrieve it?
Hello Carol, and thanks for the great question. You will be glad to know it is very easy to restore the Search option in your Start menu, and you can do so in a few short easy steps…
Right-click anywhere on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and click Properties. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box opens.
Click the Start Menu tab at the top, and then click the Customize button.
The Customize Start Menu dialog box opens. Click the Advanced tab at the top. Scroll through the items in the Start menu list and make sure Search is checked. The Search option is towards the bottom of the list.
Click OK twice to save the changes.
Click the Start button and you should now have the Search option.
If there is already a check in the Search check box, uncheck it and click OK twice to save the changes. Go through the steps above steps to check the Search check box. This has worked for some people and hopefully it will work for you if the Search checkbox was already checked.
We hope this article has helped you and your Search option is now returned to normal.
