Welcome to Scribd, a site that makes it easy to publish your writing and read other people’s content. Basically, they provide a platform for you to share your documents with the world, and provide you with a ton of interesting things to read. When trying to summarize what Scribd is, I decided it would just be easier to take you directly to their About page, because they’ve said it more eloquently than I ever could. So when you arrive on the page you can read for yourself what it’s all about.

After doing that, I’d suggest heading over to the Scribd 101 section where you will find a great slide show that shows you what Scribd is about. Beneath that you’ll find useful documents on just about everything you do as a user on their site. Pick the topic you want to learn more about and then use the arrows to navigate through the slides.

Have you decided that Scribd is for you? Then you’ll want to sign up for a free account. Just click the Sign Up button at the top of the page. It will give you the option to connect via your Facebook account, or if you don’t have/or want a Facebook account just click “I don’t have a Facebook account” to make the registration form show in full. Once you’ve signed up it will automatically log you in, so you can get started right away!

You’ll be whisked directly to your dashboard for the site and be greeted by options to put into your reading feed which you can deal with later by clicking the Not Now option. Below that (or in place of it if you selected Not Now) you’ll find the featured reads.

To Upload your own content, I recommend checking out the Upload information in the Scribd 101 section, and then clicking the Upload button at the top of the page.

I think this is a great tool for sharing user based content that would take ages to find using a traditional search engine method of looking for something to read. Check it out today!
