Like it or not, texting has become a necessity of modern communication. The good news is that you no longer have to press teeny-tiny keys or unresponsive touchscreens anymore with this handy tip!
First, use this Wikipedia entry to find the SMS gateway for the cellular service you’re trying to send a message to. Now, open your e-mail up and put the person’s number, followed by the SMS gateway you found into the “To:” field:
After that, just put your subject in and write your message as usual and hit send. Voila! Instant text-messaging without all the hassle!

Very helpful and up to date. Thanks.
Great tip! My cellular phone doesn’t have a querty keypad so this is a big help.
This is definitely a good tip. One can use it especially when, the e-mail ID is not known. Thanks Andrew!
Dica maravilhosa. Minha avaliacao: cinco estrelas. (Trans.: amazing tip. My rating: five stars.)
Hi Andrew,I tried this but Vodaphone NZ rejected it and the reply that came back said contact Vodapone NZ and see if they will accept your emails as sms’s for a fee. I’m in Aussie. Perhaps it just works in the USA. Regard. Marguerite
This is way cool and it works, sent a message already.
not enough information. some of us aren’t geeks. what is an sms gateway? the wikipedia article is very large and would take a long time to read to find something labeled sms gateway. i’d love to know how to do it but i didn’t find it as quickly and easily as i expected. so to send a text message to someone, i also have to know the cellular company they use? sorry for the ignorance.
