Set Your Homepage In Google Chrome

Wednesday, March 30th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Using The Internet

A reader is having some problems with the homepage in Google Chrome. “I’m going crazy with this issue. Every time I go to sign into my computer my home screen has been taken over by a Google page that lists a bunch of websites I’ve visited previously instead of my home page. I just want my homepage (which was always my yahoo mail page) to open as soon as I hit my CHROME icon. Is there a permanent way to make my homepage open directly into my email page? Have done virus checks etc and I haven’t been overtaken by some weird virus, so why has this changed and more importantly why does homepage not work automatically like before?”

Take a nice deep breath.  It looks as if you’ve accidentally switched what your browser displays when you open it. You could have accidentally made this change or perhaps Chrome was reset and lost your preferences. Either way, it’s a an easy fix.

You can tell Chrome to open to any webpage.  Below is the default homepage for Google Chrome.

Here’s how to select your preferred  homepage.  First, open Chrome.  In the top-right corner, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.

Click Settings. (If you’re using a Chromebook, click “Show advanced settings” at the bottom of the page.)

Under “On startup,” click Open a specific page or set of pages.

Tick the box next to Open a specific set of pages. Click Set pages.

Enter the web address of the page you want to see when you open Chrome.

Click OK.

Your other startup options are either a new tab page like the screen you’re getting now or to open to the last page you used.

Hope this helps.

I have several tabs that come up when I open the browser. I had them in the order I wanted but when I opened the browser again they were out of order. I found out that after rearranging the tabs you have to Exit the browser, not just close it with the X. Click the menu and select Exit to save settings.
