Want a quick, no-fuss way to save power on your iPhone? Just put it down, but make sure to put it face down
With the launch of iOS 9, Apple introduced a new feature known as Facedown Detection. This feature simply allows the device to know when it has been put face down. Seems rather redundant at first but it does have a very useful use.
When you place your iPhone face up then it shows each and every notification that you have enabled. For example, every time you get a message, the screen lights up with a notification. However every time the screen lights up, it uses system resources, which in turn eat up battery life.
But when you put the iPhone face down, these notifications do not appear, thereby saving battery power. You will still hear the notification sound and the iPhone will vibrate as well, but the screen won’t light up.
To use this feature, you need to have iOS 9 or later installed on your phone. As of now, this only works with iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. There is no need to enable this feature either, as it is active by default.
So if you are low on battery life or if you have a long day ahead of you without access to a power outlet, then use these two tips and avoid the calamity of a 0% battery situation.
