Is there a way to get a Start Button (as in Windows 7) on a Surface RT without “jailbreaking” it?
Bert, even “jailbreaking” isn’t going to do you any good here. (Jailbreaking or rooting refers to altering devices like smartphones and tablets to remove some of the restrictions placed by the manufacturers on changes to the operating system.) For example, a jailbroken iPhone would allow to download apps from somewhere other that the iTunes store.
In this case, jailbreaking won’t allow you to run Windows 7 or add Classic Shell to the desktop version of Windows 8. You have a Surface RT, which runs on an ARM processor. It’s just not capable of running most desktop programs like a PC. You would need to purchase a Windows tablet that runs the full version of windows, a true PC. Those tablets are usually referred to as “pro” as in Surface Pro or Dell Venue Pro.
I have seen some articles that say you can run the Classic Shell program on jailbroken device, but I can’t really suggest it. Jailbreaking is a complicated process that can easily go wrong.
