I have a free download for you today called Stellarium and it turns your computer into a star viewing machine. Now, I’m not talking about Brad Pitt or Morgan Freeman. I mean the real stars. You know, the ones in the sky!
Stellarium allows you to set your current location and watch the stars and constellations move by as time changes. You can look at a real time view or you can speed things up to see where you’ll find the stars later on.
It takes a few minutes to figure out the whole thing, so I’ll give you a few tips! After installing the program, click on the picture of the wrench in the bottom left menu. From there, select your location and turn on the constellation view. After you do that, save and close your preferences. You should now be able to see something that makes sense. After changing the settings, you’ll see the date and time in the top left hand corner. You can speed up the time or slow it down to see the stars move as they would in real life. You can do that by using the buttons in the bottom right hand corner. If you hover your mouse pointer over them, you’ll see what each of them do.
If you’re into star gazing, you’ll love this free program. Many planetariums use it to look at the stars as well.
You can download Stellarium for yourself right here. Or, if you’re using a Mac, you can get it here. Enjoy!
