Stop CD Autorun

Q:
I don’t want my CDs to autorun when I put them in. Is there a way to permanently stop this feature?
A:
By default when you put a CD in your drive it will automatically start up (in most cases). But what if you don’t want this to happen? With Windows 98/ME it’s easy.
Right click “My Computer” and select “Properties”. Next you’ll choose the “Device Manager” tab and click the + next to “CD ROM” then select the drive you want to change. Click the “Properties” button.

Under the “Settings” tab uncheck “Auto Insert Notification” then OK.

Now when you put a CD in you’ll either need to open it with Explorer, double-click the CD Drive, or go to Start/Run/Browse and select the CD drive and autorun file.
