Google TV: Late last week, Google announced their new upcoming product: Google TV. Google TV will be a platform which combines television and the Internet, allowing you to quickly access your favorite websites from the comfort of your couch, view content from YouTube and other media websites on your television, and also navigate and schedule your cable television channels. Google TV will be built using Android and Google Chrome technologies with a developer’s kit available after release. Apart from developing their own Google TV device, the Internet giant is also working with Sony and Logitech to include Google TV with their upcoming televisions.

HP Recall: Hewlett-Packard is recalling 54,000 lithium-ion batteries which have been installed in HP and Compaq computers. The recall was announced after the company received forty reports of the batteries overheating and rupturing, which have caused eleven minor injuries. HP stated that the computers affected were sold in retail stores and online from August 2007 to July 2008. The affected battery packs were also sold separately. Those with affected batteries should remove the batteries immediately and contact HP to determine if their battery is included in the recall. Those with recalled batteries will receive a free replacement battery. A list of computer models affected is available on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

Facebook Privacy in Canada: Facebook is once again having issues with their privacy settings, but this time with the Canadian government. Canada’s Privacy Commissioner, Jennifer Stoddart, announced that she is reviewing the possibility of an investigation into Facebook regarding violations against the Canadian Privacy Legislation. At the completion of the investigation, Stoddart can pass on the findings to the Canadian Federal Court to have a lawsuit filed. Stoddart stated back in August that Facebook had agreed to correct their privacy policies in order to bring their operations into compliance with Canadian Privacy Legislation, however, Facebook has recently made some changes to their privacy settings which has caught the attention of the Privacy Commissioners Office.
