The 1900 House [1]

Apparently I missed this awesome show on PBS, where a family volunteers to live in a house as though they were living in the year 1900.

There are several interesting ways to navigate the site. You can use the house icon, and click the different rooms, you can click on the picture of the family, or you can use the text links at the bottom of the page.

This is the kind of history I love. I adore learning how people lived, what they ate, how they dressed, etc.

The Family – here you can meet the Bowlers, the family that was chosen from over 400 applicants to live in the 1900 House. Click the portrait to learn more about that person and their experiences.

Behind the Scenes – what particularly fascinated me about this section wasn’t necessarily the behind the scenes video but rather the long list of rules for living in the 1900 House that you can read by clicking the icon of a man holding a sheet of paper. You’ll need Quick Time to watch the video, so you may want to download it beforehand.

The House – here you can see the floor plan of the 1900 house, and you can even take a virtual tour of the house!

Lesson Plans – if you are a teacher you can find two lesson plans that will help you use this site and the series as a resource to help teach your class.

This is an awesome site, and I’m really going to have to see if I can find this series to watch. I think it would be a fascinating to have the opportunity to live like it was the 1900′s. Check it out today!
