The Full Screen Reading Blues

Working with MS Word 2003 or 2007?

Tired of the Reading Layout/Full Screen Reading View (depending upon your version of Word) taking control of every e-mail attached document you open?

I don’t know about you, but I’m partial to the Print Layout and always have been. I just like to see it the way it was intended for the page.

So, when I first had Word 2003 and then Word 2007, I found myself irritated that every time I opened a document e-mail attachment, I had to go and change the view to see things the way I prefer.

As always, irritation leads to questions and the question was how to stop it!

If you’re of the same mind as me and would like to put an end to the automatic switch to the Reading View, here’s exactly what you’re looking for!

For Word 2003, you need the Tools menu, Options choice.

Under the General tab in the Options dialogue window, uncheck the “Allow starting in Reading Layout” checkbox.

Click OK.

For Word 2007, you need the Office Button, Word Options button.

In the Word Options dialogue window, you need the Popular category, Top options for working with Word section.

Uncheck the “Open e-mail attachments in Full Screen Reading View” checkbox and click OK.

Yep, that’s all there is to it. Word will open your attachments in a view that’s more to your liking!
