A reader sent me an e-mail to tell me that there is going to be a Great Lakes Museum built here in Toledo, Ohio. That got me all jazzed up to see if there were any interesting sites on the Great Lakes. So I found this very informative site on the lakes!
I have to admit that growing up on the shores of Lake Erie, I may have taken the lake for granted. I have a ton of happy childhood memories playing on the shores of the lake hunting for seashells and swimming out to the sand bar. But I can’t say that I really know anything specific about it.
On the main page, you’ll find a map of all the Great Lakes. You can click on each lake to learn more about that lake specifically. Each lake section starts out with What’s New which will be the latest new surrounding that lake. Then, if you scroll down the page you’ll get an overview, and more information.
You can also learn about the efforts to restore the great lakes and replenish the depleted environment. And don’t forget to check out the Images section where you’ll find photographs of the lakes!
