Even before Harry Winston sent it to the Smithsonian in 1958, the Hope Diamond was a cultural icon surrounded by tales of a curse. Is this legendary diamond cursed? The Smithsonian doesn’t think so because all it has brought them is good luck in the form of visitors curiously seeking to see the diamond.
While I was visiting the site you could vote on a new setting for the Hope diamond to be set into. So if that it is still running make sure you get your vote in by clicking the diamond beneath the option you want and then clicking the Select button. It is all in honor of the diamond’s 50th anniversary!
But that’s not all that was going on at the site. You can learn all about the curse surrounding the diamond by clicking into the section: The Curse of America’s Crown Jewel. You will learn all about the diamond’s origins, as well as, be able to follow links to explore the details of the lives of those who owned the diamond.
But maybe you’d rather not get into the supposed curse, perhaps you’d much rather delve into the Science of the Hope Diamond. Did you know that the Hope diamond glows? Or that it radiates a shocking red color? Check out the Science behind it and learn what is to come in the months before the diamond is reset into the new design.
If you scroll further down the main page you can click the Watch link, and a video will pop up that will explain why the Hope is getting a new setting and what the design choices represent. It was a very interesting watch!
In the Design section – not only can you submit your own design for a setting of the hope diamond – but you can check out the designs created by Daemon Rowanchilde. He is a world renowned tattoo artist and has come up with over 20 different designs, each with their own meaning. Some of them were absolutely incredible.
So what are you waiting for? Go check out this site and learn all about the Hope diamond and its legend!
