CD-R -

A CD-R is a writeable CD. A CD-R drive is a CD ROM drive that can write data to a CD-R disk. Note that you can't use a CD-R drive to write to a rewriteable CD (CD-RW) or a regular CD. It can read from any CD, but it can only write to a CD-R disk.

With a CD-R, you can store around 650 meg on a single CD. You can generally write to the CD until it's full, but you can't write back over the information once it's been laid down. If you need to re-write a CD, than a CD-RW is the answer.
