Tips & Tricks

Put that File in Several Places at Once !

It never fails, when I want to find a particular file, I look in the logical place, but it's actually in a different folder. Or what if I want a document on my desktop AND in a folder? I'm sure this happens to you. Wouldn't it be nice to have it in two places at once? Well, yeah, I know, you can always copy and paste into the other folder, but what if you want to make changes? Ahhh, now there's a problem.

The solution is so easy, you may have thought of it already. It took me a while before I figured it out and now I'm sharing it with you. Ready? Here it goes:

Make a shortcut of the file, then put that in the other folder or on the desktop.

Told ya it was easy.

If you've never made a shortcut, it's really easy to do. Right-click the file, select "Create Shortcut", then move the shortcut to where you want it (either by cut & paste or drag & drop ). You can then rename it if you want.

Now wherever you open the file from, it will be the same version, and if you make changes it will save to one file. No need to fumble around looking for the most current version.
