Tip #1886 - New Program Shortcuts
Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
Q:
I'm installing a program, but it didn't put a shortcut on my desktop.
Where did the program go?
A:
Most programs' default location is in a folder in the Program Files. Shortcuts
don't change the real location of a file or program. They only makes it
easier to access the file or program from the desktop.
To
find your newly-installed program, go to the Start menu
and select All Programs. You may have to hold your mouse
over the All Programs option for a few moments to get the full list instead
of the recently-used list. Just scroll to your program and click on it
to start.
Now
for the neat part: in most XP setups, your recently installed program
will be highlighted in yellow. This can really help if it's listed under
the manufacturer's name instead of the program name in the All Programs
list.
