Tip #2192 - Desktop Lock
Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
Q:
What's an easy way to lock my desktop?
A:
If you want to lock your desktop (that is, take it back to its original
start up mode, where you must enter your password or click to enter),
there's an easy way to create an icon just for that.
Do the following to
avoid using any other key combinations in the future:
Begin by right-clicking
an empty spot on your desktop, point to New and click
Shortcut.

In the Create Shortcut
dialog box, type the following in the “Type the location of the
item” text box:
“rundll32
user32.dll,LockWorkStation” (remove the quotes when typing)

Click Next.
In the “Type
a name for this shortcut” text box, type “Lock” (or
whatever you'd like to name it) and click Finish.

Now, your desktop
will be locked whenever you double click on the new icon you just created!
