Tip #2772 - UPS Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
UPS
No, I'm not talking
about the package delivery company. If you need to do some mailing, you
might want to try looking up your local UPS' phone number in the phonebook.
The UPS I'm referring to is actually a term that is used with computers
quite often as well.
In this case, UPS
stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply. It is basically a power supply
that provides back up power service in the event of a power outage or
a drop in voltage rate. In your situation, you probably mostly use a small
and private computer system, so the UPS gives you just enough time to
save what you're working on. You are then also able to shut down your
computer the normal way, instead of it being forced off by a storm, etc.
With UPS, you can be protected
from losing your work or messing up your computer because of an improper
shutdown. You can't go wrong with that, now can you?!
