Tip #2950 - TCP Printer Friendly Version | E-Mail This Tip
TCP
I mentioned the term
TCP Protocol in another tip last week and I got to thinking that some
of you may not know what it means. We've also used it in some of the other
tips we've done in the past, so I figured it would be a good idea to give
you all a little definition of it today.
TCP
stands for Transmission Control Protocol and it deals with the connection
between two or more computers and/or networks. It's the communication
they use to make sure all of the proper data gets through and in the correct
order. TCP also works with IP (Internet Protocol), which helps manage
certain addresses to make sure the data is sent out to the network.
Once the TCP connects
and the data is sent, a response is given from the receiving end. The
recipient then sends a confirmation that the data arrived successfully
with the abbreviation of ACK (acknowledgment). A confirmation is always
sent with every data packet that goes out. If the ACK confirmation is
not present, you know the connection attempt is still in process.
And that's that!
