Tip #3139 - A Preview Without the Pane

A
Preview Without the Pane
If you're like me,
you probably like the idea of previewing e-mails without actually opening
them. To help with that, I'm sure you've got MS Outlook's preview pane
doing its job at the bottom of your Inbox, am I right?
But, sometimes I hate
waiting for the preview to load and other times, there's usually something
displayed in the preview that I didn't really want to see.
So, now what?
I really don't want
to have to open every e-mail just to get an idea about its contents, but
then again, I don't want each one completely displayed either. Is there
a happy medium?
It's a good question
and I'm happy to report that there is a middle ground. It's called AutoPreview.
With AutoPreview selected,
Outlook will display the first three lines of the e-mail directly in the
mailbox message listing.
In other words, you'll
go from this:

To this:

This allows you to
scan the e-mail a little bit more discretely and only open the ones you
feel are worth your time.
If this appeals to
you, you'll be pleased to know that this feature is as close as the View
menu.
If you take a look
in the View menu, you'll find AutoPreview
as a listed option. Choose it and you've got your three line preview instantly.
(You can also find an AutoPreview button on the Advanced toolbar if you
happen to have that displayed).
Preview Pane? AutoPreview?
The choice is yours to make!
